With all due respect to Casey, I would hope that doesn't matter.  Making our list decisions and moving forward is far more important in the overall context of our club.

But, you may well be right too.

Might be a good time to make another little announcement as well.

will grimes get another go at a different afl club?

watching him on sunday was sad.

trengove and spencer got new one-year deals so will be on the list in 2017.

i'll go with the following:

dawes - wait and see depending upon hogan

lumumba - pay him out

dunn - is he a trade option? would have more value to another club than garland as defensive coverage

newton - gone

garland - is he a trade option? would have less value to another club than dunn as defensive coverage, and we somehow gave him three years

pedersen - i'd keep him as coverage

michie - gone

jkh - trade option

anb - trade option

grimes - gone

mitch white - gone / re-rookie

terlich - gone

This nails it for me.

I really feel like the kind of massive culls being suggested here are a thing of the past for us. We don't need to churn 10+ players every year. We've been through a few years of that and the results we are starting to see at both AFL and VFL show we are seeing some return on the hard work.

There is massive upside to be had from this young list and moving to a period of greater stability. I see no reason to churn solid citizens like ANB and Pederson. Players like Dawes have salary cap implications for us that require addressing and some players like Dunn or grimes need to be given opportunities if they aren't getting them here and we can make a trade a win win. In general though we should be looking at development and judicious trading bring the focus.

Given Grimes status as a free agent, i assume we don't delist him just incase we somehow get a compo pick for him?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-07/revealed-what-it-takes-to-earn-firstround-free-agency-compensation-

"Under the rules, compensation is based on the new contract of the free agent and his age.

Draft picks are also allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period and can be slotted in to one of five places: first round, end of first round, second round, end of second round and third round."

3rd round following our pick is the lowest qualifying pick - that would be 45 which would be quite handy.  Grimes is a young FA so that's in our favour and if an interstate club wants to entice him to move then it could be 3 years on some decent $s.  I think a compensation pick is possible.

Matt Jones delisted this morning.

Good luck for the future Matt. Thanks for your contribution over the past few years.

Really? Source??

actually thought they would have hung onto him as a depth only for another year.

I reckon Matt Jones deserves a 1-yr deal.  if it wasnt for injury he would have played most games.  he is reliable in what he provides and is a good runner. if we want to be in finals we need guys like him as depth/on the fringes rather than always being the youngest team

You're right. I thought he was very good earlier in the year....and that's not something I've ever thought has has been.

Meh.  Did you see a kid for Footscray the other day called Bailey Dale?  He can run AND kick.  Pick 45 2014.  Brad Lynch off half back?  Rookie draft.

They're out there, and you've got to turn over the Matt Jones' of the world and use late picks to find them.

yeah we get 'em too, Hunt, Wagner etc.  I just reckon, on his merits he had a good year and should be rewarded for working his ar$e off and playing pretty well

Matt Jones was the least spuddy of the spuds we have on our list. At least he isn't slow.
Give me a quick Matt Jones over a slow Michie and Newton any day.
The only good thing Newton has going for him is that he kicks goals as a mid.

Agree completely. He gives us something we are in short supply of - run & spread. Thought he was good until he busted his ribs

I would keep none of the above Song, we might make a few more changes than people think

The Big Sauce has a reliable source history especially re Matt Jones

Except for when he said Jones was safe because Goody liked him... or when he said that people should get off Jones' back coz he'd be round for a while.

Really surprised at the loss of Matt Jones.

All the best to all three players:  they wore the red and blue with pride.

Yes but I think he may have a direct line to Matt Jones and they were impressions whereas delisted is a fact.

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
