Late change for tomorrow.

Matty Jones comes into the side.

Not surprised

Kent looks unlikely to play.

Would he?? Surely playing Senior Footy would trump that!

Particularly if the team wins!!

Of course he would. Talking to people close to within the bushies circle that know his family in Echuca he set a goal to play at least 5 senior games knowing the himself how far back he was in conditioning.

This VFL experience will be a step forward for his development.

Really dissapointing end to the season.

A smart decision by the football club and one Oliver would agree wholeheartedly.

Perhaps also a decision made in consultation with Oliver himself. I thought the same might also have been true of Brayshaw, and if so, wonder if he was offered the option.

Personally I think any chance we had of finishing on a high ended last week but who knows. If they trained anywhere near the low levels of last week this week (according to the coach anyways) then more than likely we will cop a bit of a belting.

We will then hear the usual excuses trailed out like.....

  • We are fielding a very young/inexperienced team (ignoring the fact that this is partially because of the FD's own selection decisions)
  • Their experience shone through
  • It's been a long season and some were obviously a little tired
  • The Cats had more to play for
  • blah blah blah

It could also work the other way Picket. Some things were meant to be maybe this is one of those moments where Clarry dodges a bullet

Agree with you on pretty much all counts Rusty.  I'm sure it wouldn't be a popular call with many of the punters on this forum, but I actually think M Jones is on a par with Grimes by your assessment criteria.  Jones is a bit of s different style of player from Jack, but in my view still has a bit of a dip, knows how to find the ball at AFL level and has an impact.  Matty often gets slagged off for poor disposal and decision making, bit I actually don't think he is that bad in those areas.

Totally bemuses me why Mitchie who hasn't ever produced anything near the performance of Grimes at AFL level, yet has been given first preference over Jack all year.  How many players would put in a 30+ disposal game with good defensive and contested effort (which Roos supposedly highly values) and gets dropped one game afterwards.

Agree he shouldn't have been dropped after the Saints match. His performance was average but he had many pals on the day.

Some of the selection decisions this year, like Michie/ANB last week over Grimes, have been completely baffling Balls. Whoever was watching the VFL games must have seen something completely different going on to what I witnessed in the lead up to those selections/non-selections against the Blues.

Possibly. Not suggesting a 186 or something that crazy but might not be all that pretty either. Air might have gone out of the tyres last week. Mad Monday beckons....and for Roosy, well something a little better perhaps!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
