As Paul Roos' time as MFC coach winds to an end over the coming months, it's time to evaluate his three years.

I'm a Danners fan. Sure we were up and down like a yoyo but we made a GF and I still look back at those years fondly.

Arguably there was no better person to embark on the challenge that Roos had 3 years ago, but its hard to rank him in overall coaching ranks.

In some ways it won't be possible to assess Roos legacy for another couple of years, as he's undoubtedly bowing out well before his time is up, (in the normal way the coaching cycle goes) and would have taken this team well up the ladder over the next few years if he'd stayed...

Hard to place Roos, he was simply the right man for the job. He and Jackson created stability at the club, Jackson at the admin level and Roos at the coaching and playing level. Together they've brought Goodwin to the party, which again has created another 3 years of stability.

Some coaches leave a club with premierships as their legacy, stability and confidence will be Paul's legacy.

Roos has rebuilt the Playing List and we are in a better position than we have been for decades, we now actually have a side that can win a flag.

Northey by far ,very disappointed with Balme thought he would be great

While I agree with DemonWA above, I think that given the list that Roos had to work with when his assignment began, he was coming from much further back than Northey or Daniher...and to achieve what he has in such a short time, I would say he is at the very least their equal.  The biggest difference now is that we have a very competent successor in Goodwin, so Roo's legacy should not be wasted (as has been the case in the past).

As much as I'm looking forward to seeing Goodwin in action, it would be fantastic if Roos announced that he simply couldn't accept a winning percentage of 25% at the MFC and stayed on as head coach for another 3 years.

Thumbs down I think you meant.

Why... you werent a fan of trading out the likes of Moloney, Rivers, Martin & recruiting Toumpas, Rodan, Gillies & having a game plan that revolved around not scoring or defending ?

Northey took us from a laughing stock to our first finals appearance in 23 years in which we not only beat 2 highly fancied opponents in Syd and NM (still a record elimination GWM) but came within a whisker of one of the more unlikely GF berths of all time.

Nobody has come close, let's hope Goodwin can eclipse him!

Northy and the Rev for me. Roos could beat them if he stuck around and harvested the fruits of his labor.

Roos was only ever intended to be a foundations laying coach to start our journey out of the ditch. Can't compare him to coaches who were competing for flags in my opinion.

I would say Roos is our most important coach we have had in awhile in terms of getting us back on track and relevant in football again.

But I would have to say Daniher I mean yes every 2nd year we were hopeless but he had us in the finals the other years. Going back to 1998 it was great footy to watch. Bar the GF 200 was good as well. It was just nice to play finals.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
