Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How do you make just the Friday game a floating fixture?

I had the same thought... it means that one game would have to be allocated to Friday which could be taken from either Saturday or Sunday's fixture, making them both floating fixtures until the Friday game has been settled upon.  Would also make it difficult for anyone planning ahead to travel to Melbourne (or wherever) for the game.

It's not really that difficult, pick the games in 6 week blocks for example. It's been done in the BPL for years. People complain about 'travel arrangements' but if you know the Friday fixture is out in 6 week blocks on X date, then you wait till they're announced before organising anything. Cost of flights might increase for those travelling from interstate, but the AFL has long stopped caring about the fans, so not really an issue.

A week to plan is long enough

this current system is a joke

You can do it a month in advance to allow for spectators to arrange travel etc.

So at the start of the year you lock in the first 4 rounds, and at the completion of Round 1 you announce the fixture for Round 5, at the completion of Round 2 you announce Round 6 etc.

Anyway if the issue is AFL favouring certain clubs for Friday night games, all that would do is guarantee the top clubs get all the Friday night games.  At least this way forces the AFL to guess somewhat who the good clubs are going to be.

Well as someone who does make the very occasional trip to Melbourne from Sydney, I would have to disagree with you about that... particularly as someone who generally uses points to fly and accommodation is often not so readily available.

The movie I was watching just finished so switched it to the footy. Honestly, how do the AFL justify this sort of fixturing? The only explanation is that it's a big F U to all the other teams, their supporters and anyone who suggested Essendon should be penalised for their doping regime.

To think the Dogs just had their first Friday night game in FOUR YEARS.

Meanwhile certain favourite clubs get gifted them, purely on merit of course.

EFC will get more Fri nite games next year as it's so important to Gil to get them back on top again. Good old Gil! Always working hard to ensure the integrity of the competition.

Have to agree it was extremely poor fixturing considering the AFL must have had a pretty strong inkling that Essendon would be going down in their trial... due to that uncertainty, Essendon should not have been considered at all when planning season 2016.

Not necessarily. When we were flying a a few weeks ago and getting a lot of publicity the game against the hawks last week is exactly the type that would have been moved to a Friday night.

I have been booking Hotels all over Asia for the last 2 months using the AGODA App straight off the phone usually 2-3 days out of arrival

works beautifully

scheduling the Premier Timeslot 6-9 months in advance is just archaic if the AFL and broadcasters are serious in making top dollar.

This season has been a total bore on friday nights...

As much as I agree with the idea of a floating fixture a week definitely isn't long enough.

I come down from Mildura with the better half and it is easily a few hundred $$$ more if I'm not booking well in advance for flights plus looking at accommodation.

Maybe 4 weeks in advance would be ok

There is no way you could have a floating schedule.  There are lots of things other than travel by a few spectators that need to be organised.  While it may be workable for certain games to be moved/swapped, in general it would be a logistical nightmare.

There's the small matter of booking stadiums, arranging staff for ticketing, security, catering, cleaning, etc etc. Businesses organising boxes for their favourite clients, getting in food & drink .... so many factors.

One week is impossible. Even a month would be pushing it.

It's sad seeing him like this.

Still have our ANZAC Day eve win on IQ from last year which turned out to be Russian's 2nd last with us. He beat Maric comfortably that night.

A week is pretty much 6 working days. Ample time to sort out Logistics if the companies involved are fully aware the friday night fixture is floating

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
