Garlett is blameless. No small forward with pace could have performed well at this atrocious excuse for an VFL ground. Sadly though it goes against his recall which it shouldn't.

I would say that Ben Newton and Jake Spencer (for his ruck work) are the only Demons who earned their pay today.

I like Newton's games, of last season.  He looks skilled to me, & handy.

I don't think it's the sulks so much as the mud.  The whole ground is mud and his pace is virtually useless in these conditions.  The one time I saw him get into some space the kick fell short and was marked by one of the guys running after him.  He gave up one chase that I noticed, but has also caused quite a few turnovers that his teammates haven't been able to score from.  The big issue though is that he's hardly touched the ball.  He can't pick it up in the mud.

The giving up when things get tough, is a weak character.

try try try again.

Disagree. I saw some effort but exercise in complete and utter futility.May as well ask him to chase in a Werribee sewer farm. This game is irrelevant.

Imagine being a young player trying to learn the game plan and get some form/fitness when you have to play in conditions like this so often

I didn't watch the game but the conditions were the same for both sides and we seem to have been unable to handle them, it is after all, a winter sport.

I watched the game from the warm comfort of home on the television set and found it hard to believe that Casey was the top side of the competition. They fumbled, dropped marks, disposed poorly, rarely getting distance or accuracy with their kicks and turned the ball over constantly. That sort of play is usually a recipe for disaster and that's exactly how it turned out today.

I'd hate to be a marking forward or a rebounding defender learning my craft and playing on that windswept ground every second week. Those conditions are not reflective of the conditions they will play in 9 weeks out of 10. I watched young Liam Hulett run around like a lost lamb today. He got nowhere near it and had very little chance to be honest.

10 out 10.Trying to recall a muddy,BOG AFL game in recent memory? It's a winter sport played in pristine conditions. Slippery at worst. MFC should dump the alignment asap.

Like Arctic Park ( Waverley) - Casey Fields is in the rain - and wind -belt . Not a good place to develop your skills.

What happened to Grimes? He was off for effectively all of the last quarter- and he wasn't in playing gear when shaking hands after the game?

Was wet,not a bog like this crap hole. Monsoonal rain made it a slippery nonsense, should have been called off. One in a thousand.Metricon  Stadium would now be perfect.Casey Fields will only continue to deteriorate, horrible. No comparison.

In one WJ just outplayed in the conditions

How the hell any of our listed players will develop in Casey whilst playing on this boghole astounds me!

Apart from the wind gusts, the ground is in shocking condition.

Watching the game much worse, zero skills and just a rugby scrum in the mud.

Garland 9 possies, Terlich 6. How many times has Michie turned it over today, another who should be delisted

4 times from 26 disposals in atrocious conditions. At least he gets the ball and delivers into the forward line. It was a awful game from Casey. The worst I have seen from them. Not worth the 2 hour round trip but the bacon rolls were good.

Yeh, tough match to watch. Even though our depth has improved relative to past years when best 22 players such Brayshaw, Salem & Lumumba (+ Melksham) are unavailable our depth is tested. On a positive note, Spencer stood out today and didn't give up

I hate being a supporter traipsing out to Casey in conditions like that every second week. And nest week is in Bitter Cold Ballarat (with no bacon rolls). Ah well could be worse, could live at Casey (is it actually a suburb?). Today is one of those games you just forget because you are right they are unlikely to play in such conditions the rest of the year.

As soon as Garlett signed his new 3 year deal he stopped trying.  Didnt he do a similar thing at Carlton?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
