6. Gawn - a lot around the ground and dominated in the ruck

5. Jetta - just wanted the win and did so much to impact the contest.

4. Watts - kicked 2, great hit ups throughout, doing a lot in the ruck and looking good around the ground. Just has made his way into our best 6 players this year.

3. Hogan - Dominant key forward and wont kick 3.4 too many times.

2. Jones - I feel bad having him so low down but I thought he accumulated rather than impacted. The other 4 seemed like they could change the game.

1. Stretch - In the first quarter I thought he was going to have another game like last week, died a little but becoming a very important player and if I was Kennedy I'd be worried.

Special mention to T. McDonald, Hunt, Bugg, Vince, and Viney for also putting in today. Everyone else, where were you?

6.  Gawn  -  a huge effort, but he couldn't carry them all.

5.  Jetta  -  composed, hard and reliable under enormous pressure

4.  Jones  -  always under pressure which reduced his effectiveness, but was our only mid (apart from Gawn) who can hold his head up today.

3.  Hogan  -  did a reasonable job, but it should have been so much better.

2.  Watts  -  worked hard all day and was solid.  We need a 3rd tall option up forward to bring out his best!

1.  Hunt  -  seemed to get a bit more of the ball today, but I haven't seen the stats.  Showed us a few cameo moments, which indicate the type of player he could become.

Gawn .   Ho's to advantage. Big marks and goals. Even some clever ground work.

Jones. A four quarter contribution.

Hogan. Effective all over the ground. Big power marks. (set shots continue to worry)

Jetta.  Most reliable defender. He appears to also have gained a touch of pace.

Watts. Presents up forward. Creative. Actually contributed in the ruck.

Hunt. Pace! Will become a real weapon. His run down tackle was an inspiration.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
