Are there any Dees fans who are teachers?

Featured Replies

Yes I am too. English and Italian. Being a teacher gives one the opportunity to give Collingwood supporting students a detention on just about any pretext. I enjoyed giving a detention to that delightful Collingwood student who predicted to me one Friday afternoon prior to a Collingwood v Melbourne game   " youse are goin down !!!!!! " That detention was for poor grammar.

And for being a cheeky little s..t

Gonski is where the Tigers are at this season

Yup. And taking a winter sports (football) clinic tomorrow with four small country schools. Second week so we do 30 minutes of activities and then a lightning cup, five a side, four teams. Totally outside my normal work activities.

Depends what you want to learn...

Any of you teachers notice if more kids are wearing MFC gear this season?

We must brainwash them while they are young!

I am a teacher of love and life. You are all my pupils.

And you're all failing. Miserably.

Yep. Used to not be all proud of the gig of it in my early 20's. Took it for granted. There were "cooler" jobs out there.

Now I am 40, get 12 weeks holidays a year, never in before 8.15, mostly never work past 4.30, weekends or Januaries and I get a hundred grand a year or there abouts for doing so. And never joined a union in my life.

I would be hard pressed to find a better gig now. But you've got to like kids otherwise the job would do your head in. In fact the hardest part of the job is not the kids, bosses, or even the parents. It is the self entitled, Johnny come lately mature age 2 year trained teachers who cap off some dodge or worthless arts degree and believe that will do. Now that is what is wrong with our system.

Nothing compared to Hawks. Not even 10%. In fact any Demon kids in my year level, primary school,  get a 50c play lunch "reward" from the canteen from myself on Mondays after a win. Been a tradition for 10 years. Cost me fk all in the last decade. I love buying those chocolate logs, honey joys and muffins on a winning Monday. Keeps em keen. Most of the tossers I work with are Hawks too and they just dont get the joy we get anymore. I reckon I got more out of us winning at Geelong last year than they did winning the flag.

Actually since this topic has been opened let me say that our education system is [censored] up beyond belief. I read today that Australia is falling behind on all educational measures - doesn't surprise me at all.

Just look at the depraved f*&kers we let teach our children.

It's no wonder society is doomed.

Ten years retired after 31 years at the chalkface. Taught a few current (handy) players incl. Ablett inr, Boaky, and Dangers.

Oh yeah and the prep mums only get hotter! That's the real perk. And yep, there is no rule against going there. Just in case you are wondering.

A lot of teachers I've worked with go for dees and Hawks.  So many bumper stickers in the parking lot.

There's one teacher at my old school who used to pop his head into the office and sprook some nice Melbourne calls.

I love ribbing the little tiger tragics.

And there are two kinds of teachers as there are two types of supporters: crazy diehards or passengers.

And teachers jeered for holidays is akin to painting all dees fans as snow bunnies.

Do I detect a number of, shall we say, 'elderly' 'Landers in this thread? If you have memories of '55 to '64, please go over to the No T$ No B$ thread and register for the upcoming geriatricity ladder.

Seriously? Maybe a thread for the unemployed, underemployed, and those whom for whatever reason have no job and no adequate means to support themselves or their family. It includes folks on meagre pensions including young students with massive debts who live in a society where their governments are mean, penny pinching and do not value education .....unless you pay.  I have respect for most teachers but my interest are in those who are suffering silently because they are not valued in this society. Teachers are part of the entitled classes who happily receive paid leave and conditions that most in society do not receive.

Retired Physical education teacher. Well known students,Trevor Barker, Davenell Whatmore and Bohdan Babijczuk ( You know the one some always blamed for our injuries).

Add me to the list. Plying my trade in Beijing for a bit of a change and a fun way to ease myself into retirement. I am missing being at the G though. Back in July, so will get to see a few.

I'm a filmmaker, but have also coached for over 10 years now. It'll take a bit longer to recover after the last decade. Most kids run around in Hawthorn jumpers.

I remember being on Demonology while I was teaching in Japan in 2004 when we just missed out on week 2 finals.  I tore up a Japanese bar when we lost to the Bombers in the Elimination.  Shots of sake to rid myself of the experience.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
