What a play from Hodge.

I hate the rule, but it should have been a free against Hodge for diving at the player's legs.  We had one paid against us on Saturday.  It sucks.

Yes and no, his intention was the ball as opposed to tunnelling the opposition player.

But that free kick isn't meant to be decided on "intention".

The biggest surprise to me on Monday was that the Hawks weren't able to capitalise on some incredibly generous umpiring. This was but one example among many.

Is it like the speccy rule? Take the mark and you can sit on someone's head or knee them in the back, drop it and it's a free.

I think the umpiring went both ways. The 360 tackle and incorrect disposal.

They paid the market price for Heeney last year.

No, they paid an end of first round pick for the best mid in the draft who would have otherwise gone top two.  Heeney, like Ablett before him, has the distinction of having forced a rule change due to the manner in which he was acquired by his club.

Yes didn't we offer our pick 2 for Heeney thus forcing the Swans to use their first round pick? I believe Roos was well aware of Heeney's ability and was happy to risk the Tracc or Brayshaw for him. Swans got a bargain there and this year the rules have changed and you have to trade in draft points to get academy players or father sons depending on how they are rated in points.

I think the umpire made the correct decision in not calling that a free kick. Hodge didn't take out Greyson's legs. If he had it should've been a free, but it seems he didn't make significant contact.

Reading the afl injury list I saw that Freeman is now listed as indefinite with a hamstring injury that has plagued him for his first two years at Collingwood (might be a different leg to his original injury, not sure). I was pretty keen on him pre-draft with his explosive pace a highlight and was unsure about Salem at the time of drafting him. Suffice to say I'm happy having Salem on our list. Another win for Taylor.

Correct, we bid pick 2 for Heeney and pick 3 for Mills this year

Can't wait to play either of these teams, and wasn't the filth rated a top 4 prospect at one stage?

Whoever said that must have been on something.

Ugly ugly game at this point. Every player looks rushed and making poor decisions.

Goal kicking in the AFL is terrible.

Would be horrible for Grimes to have done his hammy again.

looks like Grimes has done another hammy, poor bloke, good player ravaged by injuries

Arguably a better career than his brother.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
