He hasn't signed on again yet, it's as simple as keep this form up and he'll get a new contract, if he doesn't he can look elsewhere, the club owes him nothing, he's had plenty of time to show something and has only ever shown patches.

Not solely, no, but it certainly adds to his case I would've thought. 

He was a signifiicant factor in us winning that game. I think to expect that to be a par performance is a stretch.

Performance follows effort.

The efforts he's shown in 2016 have superceded anything previously (7 years).

That said, if making All Australian is the minimum standard, then Watts must produce that type of game week in, week out.

I think his game last week, which was bloody awesome, exceeds the minimum standard - but I'd be stoked if he manages to produce it week in, week out. We'll be playing finals if he can - and we get a good run with injuries.

I like Jack, and hope his improved form continues. I think he owes the Club more than vice versa. The Club has stuck by him even though he has

underperformed for years. It would be very disappointing if he left, but I think that's unlikely.

I'm not sure what is so hard to understand. 

Imo, every one of his last 4 games (including the 3 NAB games) have met the minimum standard. 

They've all had the prerequisite effort and the performances have followed. 

I must be talking Swahili.

Jack Watts' output for MFC has been disappointing, but MFC input to Jack Watts has been more disappointing.  He has needed guidance to realise his talent.  Could he have landed at a more dysfunctional club than ours?  It would have been fascinating to see if he started at Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney or West Coast.  It seems as though we've got our development in order now and we have a competitive list so Jack now has a level playing field.

I agree totally.  As a perennial JW supporter, I cannot understand how people are so dismissive of the impact that continuous incompetent development and repeated changes in the coaching group on an intelligent and thoughtful individual like JW.  We should be thankful that we haven't destroyed his desire to play footy.  Get off his back and acknowledge the great loyalty shown to this point.

Of course the club has stuck by him.  We could have traded him away multiple times.  But we could always see the potential and we've given him the opportunity to reach that, which it seems he is now doing.

The Neeld years set Jack back more than the club. He didn't get guidance, just abuse. That was when he went to get counselling from Malthouse of all people.

its not forgotten moon.  he owes a lot.  He has to show a lot. 

 

He'll be tested very soon physically.  He has to stand up to it,  & not take it.  He has to show he'll fight & win.  Then the game, Win. 

If he is to be of any use in future finals games,  in years to come then he has to be able to fight back,  & to raise his efforts.
