The AFL players' top 50: 50 to 41

No idea who wrote it but great that Bernie and Nathan get this recognition.  Bernie ranked 48 and Nathan 42.  (With a countdown there may be others but unlikely).  Very well deserved by the guys.

It is another public acknowledgement that we are improving.  I even saw mfc and 'destination club' in the same sentence in The Age recently!:o

Bit by bit we are earning back respect!

Hogan might still be  ?

End of year 50 - Jones Vince Hogan Gawn unless injured - then circling around could be a couple of others (Brayshaw, Rising star favourite Tracca, Viney..... ) hell if things go well we actually might have a handy team this year!

There are 18 teams and 50 spots in the top 50. Your doing above average to get three in there.

Based on games played last year, Jack Viney should be higher on top 50 than Jones and Vince.

Yep - and we haven't had any for decade, while the likes of Hawthorn, Geelong etc have had 6 or 8. Time for us to start the rise and be recognised during the rise - can honestly see the 4 above this year and then the extra's to come

Depends on who the players doing the voting are I guess.

I wonder if Gazza and Selwood would vote for Viney...

It says there are 4 new key forwards in the top 50 so I'd say Jesse is there, deservedly or not

I think he should be there. After the toweling he gave Rance I think he caught they eye of every opposition backman in the league.

Changes the game when he's there. Double team him to negate and leave a hole somewhere, or leave him 1 on 1 and risk him clunking a contested mark. Which he happens to be 3rd best in the league at. You could see it in the Port game, defenders get paranoid with him on the ground.

We are doing alright so far with 20% of the nominated players to date!

Cant remember the last time we had two players in the top 50.   Viney and Hogan would have to have been very close too.

They both deserve it. They are in the best 30 or so midfielders in the comp.

Hogan is in the best 10 forwards.

Not sure we've got any of the best 10 defenders.

A few rucks get squeezed in somewhere as well and I'd probably have Goldy, Sandi and probably Nic Nat, maybe Jacobs. Mumford if fit. Gawn's challenge is to break free of the pack and in to that conversation. Half a season doesn't have him there yet but hopefully he can step up.

Based on the player ratings Tom McDonald top 5

One of the latest Fox ads has a little girl designating each kid in a lineup as a star player in the completion. The usual candidates pop up as she points at each kid - Pendlebury, Fyfe etc. Then all of a sudden..."Nathan Jones". I just about fell off my chair. It's nice to know he's as highly regarded in some circles as he is by (most) Demon supporters.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
