Saturday Talking Point: The NAB Challenge

Featured Replies

I hate the Druggos, but seeing Carlton kick 1 goal in a half against a team of top ups is hilarious.

Granted, Carlton are missing some of their best players, but that's no excuse for only being able to kick 1 goal against a backline of players who weren't even in the AFL last year.

I wanted to see how each team fared with interchanges but I've had no luck finding it. The AFL match centre page displays zero interchanges. Anyone know the figures?

They were both awful in the first quarter.

But Carlton in the second were so horrifically awful that Essitan got a run on.

And what's with the fifties? Another "interpretation" of the rules?

Carlton are missing most of their starting midfield and aren't playing four of their interchange a half. You can tell Weitering will be a quality ten year player for them

Parish doing better than what I would have liked but that is only because of my dislike for the Bombers

Parish's first three kicks were all absolute shanks.

Crowley is going to be very good for the Bombers this year if he can stay fit. There's quite a bit to like about the Bombers still, more so than Carlton at any rate, who admittedly are missing six of their better players.

We need to somehow lure Weitering here.

First game and he's looked Carlton's best player.

MFC fan so half the work is done :)

Essendon v Carlton is an absolute train wreck.

Without a word of a lie it was the worst game I've ever seen.

And I have never seen so many easy dropped marks.

Dropped marks and kicks directly to the opposition. If we lose to Carlton we are destined to be bottom dwellers for eternity.

N/A was Tipungwuti      What a great name......Young Aboriginal player

If we lose to Carlton we should voluntarily opt out of the AFL and become tourist guides at the MCG, or those people who fetch the footballs after they go into the crowd.

Just turned on the TV and saw the Crows running out at Mount Barker for their clash against Freo in the most hideous uniform I've seen since Hawthorn wore that jockey strip.

That was enough for me.

At least it isnt white. Ffs

I know they had Cripps, Murhp and Gibbs out, but by God they were horrible.

We had Vince, Jones and Brayshaw missing, who are similarly important.

Kreuzer too, of course, who is a key.  But gee I'd be mortified if I was a supporter of theirs.

Was always going to be 'ProDee'.

They picked up a bargain basement lot from GWS added to an already substandard list.

I pity Cripps, he's really going to be carrying this team for a while.

I couldn't believe the pump up from the so called experts last week after their game v the Hawks. A lot of these guys haven't got a clue, they were willing good things to happen and making stuff up out of nothing because they like Bolton & he's an ex-Hawk so he must know what he's doing.

I don't envy him his job, rebuild or not the Carlton natives will get restless very soon.

Not one ounce of sympathy from me...

At the end of last season, they were resigned to the need for a rebuild. That the old Carlton way -- buy your way to flags -- didn't work anymore. The last throes of that, the Judd years, brought them nothing. So it was long slow rebuild and they embraced that.

Somehow over summer they turned that into a fairy tale that because Silvagni is a genius recruiter, they will will push for finals this year!

Hawks v Tiges showed how seriously the Hawks are taking the NAB cup. They flattered Carlton the week before.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
