That's not quite correct od. Fitzpatrick has pointed out that they want to give Jobe an opportunity to be heard as to his arguments why he should be able to keep the medal. Clearly that couldn't happen before today. I think it's a proper process. (And I think the AFL will have no choice but to take his medal from him.)

Surely Jobe has had his chance many times to come clean on PED cheating. He is now a convicted drug cheat. He was cheating the year he won the Brownlow. There is no discussion. You are a guilty drug cheat give it back, end of discussion.

PS: Hey Lance Armstrong, do you want to discuss why you should keep your Tour de France trophy's.

PPS: Why ask a cheat why he should keep his ill gotten gain. Do you ask a thief is he should keep his booty when he is caught? AFL you are a joke.

Tanner is on about how the players should have got a no fault discount. Still doesn't get that not one of them checked where they should have and every one of them didn't disclose the truth to ASADA when asked.

I wonder sometimes where these people get off but then I remembered he is an ex poly so doesn't know the right thing if it bit him. Hope he makes himself look as silly as Marsh did.

Exactly. From page 13 of the verdict:

"As to sanction, the Players cannot show lack of significant fault or negligence in committing the anti-doping rule violations because, inter alia, they signed the consent form to receive the prohibited substance, receiving the injections and failed to disclose the injections on doping control forms."

In other words, TB4 was listed on the consent form, then they failed to disclose it.

The AFL sanctioned EFC and Hird for 'poor governance'.  Since then Worksafe found them guilty of an unsafe workplace and CAS found the players guilty of drug cheating.  Surely, the AFL has to go back and raise new sanctions against EFC based on this new evidence.

The AFL decision on this, Watson's brownlow and removing EFC from the ANZAC day game, will be telling.

Can't help but think the AFL they will stoop to new lows in spin, whitewash and camouflage to protect EFC and the AFl 'brand'.

I'm thinking there should be several secret Reports about the AFL AFLPA etc on their way to the Federal Government right now. Lets hope they don't get lost!!!

People forget this is a result of the actions of the EFC.. not Wada, had they not had a supplements program it wouldn't have happened, the blame 100% sits with the Essendon football club.

the reactions have been disgraceful from the AFL, AFLPA and EFC, totally ignoring the evidence and once again acting like WADA is the big bad wolf out to get them for no reason.

If jobe keeps his brownlow and EFC are able to gain pick 1 next year it will be a reflection of what a joke the AFL is, they cheated.

It is disgraceful that the Leader of the Opposition (our alternative Prime Minister) is effectively undermining CAS's decision, without any consideration for the clean sportspeople that represent our country.

He clearly hasn't read the judgement so appears a bit of an uninformed dill!

Well, that might be 34 votes he's tied up for the next election. Not sure where any more will be coming from, though.

Don't know whether is has been mentioned. Silly Gil did say that we can upgrade a player from the rookie list to a senior spot immediately as if the were Long Term Injury.

Don't know about our salary for Milkman but Essendon have to allow the players wage in their salary cap even though they aren't getting paid. and will get allowance from AFL for the top-ups.

In all sincerity, what a terrible irony for the players. They're rightfully concerned about taking prohibited and seek assurances from the club and ask for those assurances to be put in writing. Which they are given and they then sign the form. And this becomes a factor in not being to able to argue no significant fault or negligence. Ouch

The only downside in this situation is that the AFL doesn't have a promotion / relegation system. I would love to see Essendon spend the next ten years working their way back up from Division 4 in the amateurs, as Juventus had to do in the Italian Serie A.

As for Melksham and Goodwin, I can't see why we would want either to be at this club. Melksham - very average player and confirmed drug cheat. Goodwin - no coaching experience and present at Essendon at time of said drug cheating. Really disappointed that both are here.

That's what happens when you ask a football coach about signing forms and you don't speak to your manager about getting legal advice. Stupid all around.

I have always been in players camp - when your coach/administration stands up in front of the entire squad and says " we will be doing a supplement program - don't worry its all kosher" ( paraphrasing is mine) - team first and foremost dictates you would have accepted this. It did strike me as odd that not one parent or manager questioned or queried what was transpiring but not that the players didn't. I have spoken to a couple of players and they have said that they have on many occasions being given a pain killer or something of that kind  by the club doctor without asking what is was. As a player, you are conditioned not to question "the team".

However after reading this   Of 30 ASADA testing missions during the period in question, none of the 18 players tested declared the injections, despite being asked each time whether they had taken any supplements.”my sympathy has gone down the gurgler. I fully expect that if the players thought everything they were taking was kosher then they would have had no problem answering the above questions truthfully.  Being asked 30 times whether they are taking supplements and 30 times answering no....sorry...no sympathy for the players at all.

i listened to a (current) afl player (anonymous) giving an interview on 3aw with tony jones (ess supporter) this morning.

he basically disputes your first para. he claimed that from tac level on the players are continually warned and educated on the taking of substances. they are trained to trust no-one, club, coach, players, manager, doctor etc. that they are solely responsible and they are personally given numbers to call to check. he went on to give a lot of detail and examples

jones kept butting in with all the usual but...but.. type arguments and he swept them all away with lots of knowledge and first hand examples

CAS has delivered the verdict that many of us had been expecting all along.

I'm annoyed about the small penalty, as I was hoping they would miss 2 seasons, but I'm jumping for joy at a guilty finding.

For all of those media sycophants, and delusional essedon supporters, who have been spouting [censored] through the whole saga, I say this.

Just because you want something so so bad, it doesnt mean that if you say something often enough, that it will come true. Your twisting of, or simple ignoring, of blindingly obvious facts, has painted you all as fools of the highest order. Years of pushing an agenda, of telling and re telling the story through your essedon tainted glasses, in a vain attempt to influence people, thinking this would help to get your boys off, has been seen by CAS for what it was. Nothing but bummers propaganda.

You, essedon, are now CONVICTED DRUG CHEATS.

Many of you are STILL arguing that this was some kind of conspiracy, a setup.

But you have been found GUILTY of using PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS.

And one other thing. You were convicted using evidence that was gathered by ASADA. ASADA evidence had you convicted as drug cheats. ASADA AND BEN MCDEVITT KICKED YOUR CHEATING ASSES. The little afl tribunal couldnt protect you from bigger forces, that dont give a stuff about your insignificant schit stain of a club

You filthy, stinking, cheating drug users. May you suffer for years after your players return. I hope all of you delusional priks choke on your wasted words.

You lost - Clean sport won.

Die essedon. Just die.

Poetic words Faulty...I agree 100%

I will despise & hate these lousy stinking drug cheats for decades long after i am dead....

I'd hate if one of the 'other' clubs in this get caught out under the salary cap, if we for example still have to include milkshake's payments under our cap, then the rookie we nominate gets match payments that are in excess of the cap, surely there'll be some relief. I know that in a normal season rookies get elevated and the club would make allowances, but this could potentially be for the whole season, and still have the normal season events.

if it is michie as expected then it is reported he is not on a rookie salary but maintained his previous list salary

so no net increase needed (or maybe a minor difference)

I am awed by how they conducted this inquiry with no leaks. Contrasts with the home town, boys club, nudge nudge wink wink 'investigation' by the AFL.

The leaking EFC and the Herald Sun fan boi's have been shown up as the demented fools they are.

Could've been A LOT worse. Essendon have planned a long way out for this. They have been offloading their players for a few years. Opposition teams have been silly enough to pay top value for these players, and Essendon have netted themselves some handy pick ups in the meantime. Well played by the Bombers. Worsfold doesn't have that bad a gig, there is ZERO pressure on him this year, and next year he'll get top picks (assuming there isn't further draft bans) and his original players will return. Probably the easiest of the coaching gigs in 2016 and he'd be getting paid a stack. If that is karma, yes please.

plus the serious potential of snagging pick 1 in 2016 and welcoming back Hurley, Hooker, Heppell and co for next year, I don't imagine Watson will come back.
