I'm fairly sure Jakovich's career was cut short by a back injury which had nothing to do with having the odd gasper. Oh that he had played double the games and kicked double the goals. To see him destroy the Pies again virtually off his own boot. What wouldn't we give for that !!

They shouldn't. But they are also humans and they are also advised to take some form of a break over the holiday period for physical and mental wellbeing. The best players manage to unwind whilst still working on improving over the off season but it might not be for everyone.

I don't think anyone came back in terrible shape from what I've seen at training.

Harmes, Hogan and Garlett it's 3 out of 27 so far who might not have been exactly where the coaches wanted them to be. Harmes and Hogan are competitive young guys who will work very hard to get up to speed. Garlett is disappointing as an experienced player but then again we didn't exactly recruit him to lead the way at training.

“Viv probably played his best footy towards the end of last season. He gave himself a chance, but we needed numbers on the list for the draft, so it meant he dropped back to the rookie list. He’s training well and he needs to get fitter – he knows that – but he’s working hard at that area of the game. He has shown he can play AFL football, but it’s just a matter of him pushing hard now and doing everything he possibly can to get in the round one side.” – Paul Roos

On face value, Roosy has more faith in him than might be expected.

I found the round one side comment by Roos surprising.  He may have forgotten that Mitchie is a Rookie.  But that is unlike Roos especially as it could give false hope to Mitchie.  

So I wonder who he plans to 'drop' from the seniors side or put on the LTIL.  Current potential candidates: Melksham, Trengove, Frost, Petracca

I believe that we're allowed to promote one rookie prior to round one regardless of injury.

I guess that refers to the 'nominated' rookie rule which is connected to the movement of players to the veterans list.

Not sure but I think this has been changed and now a rookie promotion is for a LTIL or after the bye. 

Would be good to have some clarity if anyone knows.

Reading Roos observations and figuring his code, Oliver is looking pretty good for an early season (or even round one) start to his AFL career.

Injury free and a good NAB campaign will seal the deal for him.

Found these two reports interesting especially Terlich. Billy sounds like a mini Daniel Cross. Can't wait to see him go up a level next year.

Roos comments re Terlich are also interesting, but I still doubt he'll play an AFL game again.

Dazzledavey Alan Jakovich was a freak,in his era other players trained much harder than what he did.No one commented on Oliver,looks over weight that does not make him lazy,I  will say it again you can train the house down but that's not necessarily going to make you a champion. Compare Scully an exceptional fit bod to Harmes who would you choose?
