Jack Watts in 2016?

Fitz Fitzpatrick

Recommended Posts

In his 3rd year of a coaching executive that actually have a clue.

Let him play in the FP all year.

Yes, I'm shouting.

There are two things I find bizarre about this post.

1. That you would consider the coaching prior to Roos SO inept that it can totally excuse the first five years of Watts' career. A frankly ridiculous proposition.

2. That you think somehow people have forgotten how you routinely defended Neeld up until the day he was sacked. Now you rewrite history to claim that you only defended him for instilling a strong culture. The logic being that you were willing to overlook a coach who was detrimental to player development simply because he brought tough love.

Bizarre stuff.

Watts is in the last year of his contract, he's reportedly on good $$ and despite his 20 games, his 2 droppings in 2015 were rather telling (dropping himself earlier & then getting dropped by the coaches in the last game of the year with comments made by the footy department along the lines of the kids played were giving us more). He's played over 100 games now, will be in his 3rd year under Roosy, and if he can't impact contests still next year he will be getting a gigantic paycut at best in 2017 along with Dawes, Grimes & a few others so we can go fishing....... in fact I reckon he'll get a paycut regardless, he's been over paid for years now.

I don't expect you to get it, but I want you to try your absolute best:

1. Yes, the coaching was inept, as was the recruiting, as was the culture, as was the preparation.

2. Yes, I defended Neeld to get rid of the unprofessional culture that existed, but I acknowledged he couldn't coach. Further, when he was sacked, I advocated for all to go. Clean slate.

3. Your mindless group mentality bleating of JW is growing tiresome.

Well I listened to the views as expressed and I feel I need to support Jack Watts for the following reasons

1 He rarely wastes a disposal

2 He rarely misses a goal

3 He is the best link man we have got

4 He selflessly dropped himself when he felt not up to scratch ( and in the cut throat world pf professional sport I see this as actually displaying leadership)!

5 He is blessed with the one attribute not many of any of our players have! Time!! A shimmy here a twist there, this makes him pretty unique.

FWIW I will say that Jack will be a revelation this year and play really well.

You know if he played at Hawthorn or Freo of one of the other top sides he would be an absolute world beater!!

Answer me this ..would Bruest be as sensational a player if he played with us??

Nar,

I reckon Jack Watts will surprise many, maybe even himself!

Go Jack

Go Dees!

Those who say his dropping in round 22 meant nothing your kidding, it was a game where the club was looking to the future whilst commemorating Crossy's career, and the coaches didn't think Watts didn't fit the side for either of those tasks!!

Bruest busts his guts mate, are you kidding? No way jack would get a game for clarko, at least not playing the way he has for us.

Bruest can win his own ball.

You've asked the wrong question, it should have been "is the way Jack plays his footy sustainable in a final should we make finals" and the answer is no.

I remember listening to the Essendon game on the radio, Gary Lyon was listing Melbourne players who needed to lift in the second half (yes the whole team under performed that day) Watts name was mentioned as he was playing on a first year and was getting led to the footy.

We've had that many "Watts" threads over the year and we all know where each other stands in regards to him. Next year is make or break for him. Jumbo has mentioned him playing forward pocket, I like the idea but failing that he's cooked.

Yeah wel, I'm still gonna back him!!

And just as an aside

Didn't Bruest jump out of the way of oncoming traffic?? And was crucified for it in the press and on the Hawks fan forum!?

Clarko wouldn't stand for that What????

You tried to pull off the condescending reply when defending Neeld as well. It didn't work then either.

1. Was the coaching of a lesser standard? More than likely. They were/are still professional AFL coaches. Using any of their shortcomings to cancel out five years of a player's career is seriously clutching at straws.

2. So you were willing to back in a hopeless coach simply because you felt he was addressing the culture? That is an incredibly reckless position to take. I doubt it's true in any case. If I had the inclination, I'm certain I could find posts of yours that defended Neeld more holistically than that. Such was your passionate defending of Neeld, you were skeptical about the Roos appointment at the beginning. You felt Neeld was the right man for the job, you stated that repeatedly, and you were wrong. You would do yourself a huge favour by just admitting that. But you won't, because you think pride is better preserved by doing these silly mental gymnastics.

3. Again, point to where I've been critical of Watts in this thread. Scroll back and you'll see that I think Watts will play at least 11 games. PD has overshot there. It's a big season for him, no doubt. He'll need to find consistency in 2016 to prevent being overtaken by those knocking on the door.

There's no way Melbourne will match any offer for watts next year unless he completely changes his game...can't see it happening.

So I think we can be pretty sure, 2016 is watts last year in the red and blue , regardless of his personal career come 2017.

Let's enjoy the final year of this most controversial journey

Rubbish and hyperbole.

My favourite thing about Watts is you can find out the people who have little understanding about footy and choose to make definitive statements about him and come out at this time every year saying "it's his last chance" blah blah.

Typical response from Father Stuie

Can you seriously imagine Jack Watts playing a solid game in late September?

Think hard before throwing back a response Father.

Decent players don't drop themselves from a senior team.

Watts is way down the pecking order now

Another ordinary season in 2016 & he won't progress.

Attitude is all wrong sadly.

Don't forget the tantrum he threw when Roos said that the players were scarred. He then went on to tell us all that he wanted to see 'actions, not words' from our head coach.

Mind you that the 2014 season hadn't even started yet. Short of Roosy invading the Westpac Centre and challenging Bucks to a jelly wrestling match, I'm not sure what 'visible action' Roos could have taken.

Externally, that was the offers received.

Regardless of whether he is rated externally or not, I personally am of the opinion he is in the best 22 and obviously from there it's form dependent as we have more depth.

If Jack Watts is in our best 22 (automatic selection) with his present form and attitude then this club is continuing to go nowhere.

The good thing is I don't think he is.

Jack needs to work hard core toward aggression to the ball otherwise he just won't fit in

Wattsy is OOC and up against it to hold his spot in the 22 in some pretty exciting times, 2016 is as simple as jack watts answering the question of how badly he wants to be part of it, is he willing to fight for it.

Wow.

Hearing that from a bloke who backed someone who holds a 15% winning record and who can't bring himself to actually admit that, you know, it was a complete disaster, I must really be incoherent...

By the way, my name isn't really Colin B. Flaubert, jumbo returns. Though I know for a fact that isn't your real name. My well placed sources tell me that it's Azzface VonClownstick.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents.
