Darcy Tucker

Last year he was touted as a potential number 1 draft pick. Fell away a bit this year but if the talls are taken before pick 7 id happily jump at the opportunity on this kid. Hard as nails Half back / midfielder who had a 15.3 beep test and provides run and carry off a half back with his neat disposal. Id probably compare him to Christian Salem. Will eventually turn into a midfielder and i know Roos has a big emphasis on players who can be versitile and play in multiple positions. Captained North Ballarat rebels in the under 18s game and also Australia in the VFL game so he has huge leadership credentials.

Also something i found very interesting was i just read the AFL going places that Callum Twomey does and it stated that in the article it talks about him coming out of the meeting getting a fair wack from his with alot of recruiters for his performance as a captain in the VFL game was ordinary. So feeling down and dejected Jason Taylor could see he was upset and pulled him aside and gave him some words of encouragement and to keep his head up and focus on next week. Thought it was very good of Taylor and shows the qaulity in the bloke we have.

If we decide to go tall at Pick 3 rather then Parish, then I'd be very happy to see us take Tucker at 7.

Don't get me wrong i'm a big fan of Oliver at 7 also, but Tucker's probably a little more versatile.

He was never touted as a likely pick 1. Top 10 sure but never top pick.

He was touted last year along with Parish to go high in this years draft. The reason why he has dropped is because he didn't have a good champions like he did last year according to the draft experts.

But Tucker definitely was talked about a top pick last year.

Tucker is...

Tough . He is not a receiver.

Fast. As quick as any in the under 18s.

Skilled. Can kick 50 metres plus easily and hit a target.

(Weitering Schache Parish Francis Curnow and Weideman are top 6).

Option for pick 7. Better than Balic, Mathieson and Oliver.

My first impression is he is of a similar player to Rory Sloane. In his draft I was hoping the Dees would have taken him with our pick in the 20's before he slid all the way Adelaide at pick 40 something.

I can't see us taking him with Pick 7 and he definitely won't get to our third pick.

They all sound like superstars this time of year.

Exachery Ron very rosey colours this time of year and not just at Flemington.

Highlights dont tell anything, particularly at this level

The step up to Afl is getting bigger and bigger making good recruitment decisions increasingly difficult and risky

Hats off to the recruiting staff I would hate the job!

Too inconsistent shows lack of work ethic, got to judge on past top kids that did not make it no good pass.

Lol how can you go by a player now on past tense? Especially when we have a good development program installed now..

Silly comment

This kid seems to overthink his game which could be a problem for him going forward.

What's wrong with - in the future? Or are you meaning the forward line? I'm confused perhaps even a vacuous fool.

not really his best and worst games are to far apart, that's what is the word from the recruiters, does not play well in the big games, example the under18 carnival, and in the tac cup finals.

From memory we were into Tucker in his draft year. Any chance he plays a role in the Jackson trade?

I like this idea fork.

Tucker has good ball use skills and is more outside than inside. The type of player we still need in my opinion. He wasn’t playing at the back end of the season for Freo. Not sure if he was injured or out of favour.

He was pushed out of the midfield to play HBF.  Problem is they have Hayden Young and  Jordan Clark and he can't push either of those guys out.  The worry for me is that he couldn't dislodge someone like Aish either.

He's a decent kick but not outstanding. He's failed to find much ball either midfield or half back, and his defensive efforts are often lacking. He's been around 7 season now and played 14 games this year for an average of 10 disposals and les than 2 tackles. It's no wonder he's been in and out of the team his whole career when not injured, as he really doesn't offer a lot offensively or defensively.

I wouldn't bother chasing him when we'e already got better options and depth on the list. We've got other more pressing positional needs and would want bonafide best 22 quality player in the Jackson trade.

Such gems but it does underscore what a lottery the draft is even at the pointy end

Tucker is a skilled left footer with contested footy ability. I’d like to bring him in and mould to play small defender to replace Hibbo. I think he could be a Brayden Maynard type defender. I’m a Yes.

Freo gave him a decent run at half back and he struggled. One good game three bad.

Also knee injury in the WAFL a couple of weeks back. Think better options will surface in the next month or so.

Thanks. I saw him for Freo v dogs at marvel and he looked like he was a valuable defender.  Maybe that was home of the one good rather than the 3bad.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
