Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Included the new boys as Roos has a track record of playing the guys he recruits.

Not a whole lot of structural change in the talls but there should be competition for spots especially down back. The main thing I'm hoping for is increased speed and endurance and hopefully more goal kicking power.

I feel as though we really need to get these young kids playing as many games as possible as Vince Dunn jones won't be around for as long but still good to have them on the park for guidance and add some confidence to these players. Feels good to struggle trying to fit everyone into the best 22!!!

We seem to have a glut of small fast young guys on the fringe - ANB, Stretch, JKH and Kennedy. Hopefully a couple really fly this year. ANB as a forward / mid I think has the most chance of cementing his place. JKH and Kennedy fight it out as forward / mid rotation depth, Stretch defender / mid depth.

Just think how far we have come.

Seriously. When was the last season you saw a "best 22 for year" thread where we didn't include at least one unnamed draft pick? I.e. named pick 3 on the bench, or even better yet, named a potential draftee as if we already had picked them?

I think we'd probably be going back at least 5 years.

Our list must be improving.

Thinking outside the box a little

FB: Bugg Frost Dawes - Frost as a stopper, Bugg and Dawes are competitive and both good users of the footy

HB: Vince Dunn Melksham - All have shown they can play a defensive role, whilst Dunn and Vince have long penetrating kicks that would make any backline nervous

C: Jetta Jones Salem - provides run and carry on the wing, both good users of the footy

HF: Petracca McDonald Vanders - McDonald has shown he can make space and take a grab, Petrecca/Vanders add size and competitiveness

FF: Garlett Hogan JKH - Need crumbers at Hogan's feet and speed to make space

Foll: Gawn Viney Tyson - The on ball brigade capable of getting first hands on the ball, and extracting to outside run

Int: Pederson Brayshaw Harmes Kennedy - Pederson (backup ruck/forward/back),with a fleet of rotating midfielders (not sure about Kennedy, but Roo's normally tells trade recruits "it's your position to lose")

* nearly every player can rotate back and forward or through the midfield

No Garland, Lumumba, Watts, Kent, Trengove, ANB or Stretch - shows the improvement

It also allows the kids to develop in the VFL.

Dawes back pocket?

IMO our improvement next year will come from the fact that these players missed huge parts of the year and will make the team better should they play most of the year:

Frost played 3 out of 23

Salem 10 of 23

Tyson 15 of 23

Pederson 7 of 23

Kent 4 of 23

Petracca 0 of 23

Viney 16 of 23

55 games played from top 22 players out of a possible 161

If these players play 140 games next year, we will improve significantly.

"Dawes back pocket?"

Why not, he's more than capable of bringing the ball to ground from an aerial contest!!!

Also super competitive at ground level.

and is a very good field kick and normally moves it on quickly.

Don't underestimate the value of on-field leadership qualities - Cross is a very good example

A complete list of all players (including draftees) and based on GRRM's best 22 team (which is pretty good). Assuming Harmes gets upgrades and Hunt and Michie re-sign, otherwise we may have an additional draftee or DFA.

FB: Jetta Dunn Garland

HB: Salem McDonald Melksham

C: Stretch Viney Brayshaw

HF: Kent Hogan Vanders

FF: Garlett Pedersen Petracca

Foll: Gawn Vince Jones

Int: Tyson Kennedy Bugg Watts

Backs; Lumumba Grimes Frost OMacTerlich White®

Mids: ANB Harmes Trengove Michie Newton M Jones

Fwds: JKH Dawes Hunt King®

Rucks: Spencer

Draftess: 3, 7, 46, R1, R2

The best part is that for me Lamumba, Grimes, Frost, Dawes, Spencer and Trengove are senior players who aren't getting games, which means we have at least 1 depth in each line and can potentially go to a best 26 before we start really struggling. This gives us some cover for injuries, form and kids learning.

Then we have a good list of other young players who I fully expect to demand a position based on form at some point: OMac, White, ANB, Harmes, Newton, Michie, JKH. That's seven more players who will have to perform at VFL level to get a game, but have futures ahead of them if they can get in.

A couple of young developers (King, Hunt) and a couple of playing for their careers (Jones and Terlich), rounds the list out, and you'd expect that after next pre-season, when we move on a handful of the following 14 who will be out of contract (and not always among our first picked):

Trengove, Dawes, Grimes (RFA), Watts (RFA), M Jones, Spencer (UFA), Terlich, Newton, O McDonald,, Pedersen, Hunt, Michie, King ®, White ®,

we will suddenly have an AFL list, with depth, with a few kids developing, no dud seniors and no significant list cloggers.

What I do see though, is a lack of midfield depth. The core best 22 midfield is ok (if not young), but after that it gets thin. ANB and Harmes are probably next picked but they too are green. Trengove has question marks. Michie and Newton have different sorts of question marks, but at least represent depth. This is an area we will need to add to, hopefully through the draft this year, and through trades next year.

How I see it,,

FB: Jetta , Dunn, Garland

HB: Salem, T.Mac, Melksham

CTR : Stretch , Viney, Tyson

HF : Harmes, Frost, Vandenberg

FF : Garlett, Hogan, Kent

FOLL: Gawn, Vince, Jones

BNCH : Petracca, Bugg, Kennedy, Brayshaw

EMRGY : Watts, Lumumba, ANB

Possibly pick 3/7 depending who we take and how they perform in NAB

Anyone think Dunn or Garland might be used forward this year. Dunn played forward against the GWS final round and played OK. Similar height and weight to Pederson and is a better kick than Frost.

I'm firmly of the belief that Frost should play in the backline, as a result Dunn could easily play forward.

The club may pick up some pretty good talent in nov draft. A.FRANCIS and K.COLLINS are already made players. A forward and defender. Dawes,Watts,Grimes may struggle to get time in the seniors. To pick my best 22 I will wait for the nov draft to end.

Dawes should not play one game this year if this team is to improve. Completely ineffectual footballer who was not wanted by ONE club when put up for trade.

Petracca (if fit), Melksham, Pick 3, 7, Bugg will all be in the round 1 team hopefully. I understand the thought of easing high draft picks in; but this era is not like the Neeld era. These draft picks if they are ready should play. Selwood, Judd, Hodge, Goodes etc all played round 1. If good enough, play them.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
