A promising midfielder who struggled with injuries last year. Was in and out of the team this year and needs to be more consistent with his output to hold his place..

Games he played early in the season were average but he did okay later on. Much prefer him as a depth filler player than the likes of M Jones.

I can't see Michie ever being better than the 25th-30th best player on our list, so the question becomes whether you give him games ahead of guys like Neal-Bullen and Harmes who have more upside. If we draft / trade well he could sit outside our best 30 players, in which case you would think his current contract would be his last.

He has been in the system long enough now that he is not going to have the breakout season that we had previously hoped for, he'll just be a plodder.

got better. Does some things which make me think, "wow, you'll make it." Does other things which make me want to throw my beer at the bloke in front of me.

Too good of a depth player to de-list, when the others who we did delist were worse.

I rate him ahead Neal-Bullen, but not quite as electric as Harmes.

Geez, I don't Song. Neal - Bullen has some real tricks up his sleeve.

He will always be better than a plodder. He has good skills and a good footy brain. Bear with him.

One that certainly benefited from a consistent run of games in a row (see also: Gawn, Maximum).
Interestingly enough the same thing happened with Sir Viv in 2014 he got a decent run at the end of the year and started putting up consistently

decent numbers and having an impact around contests, albeit not in an explosive or flashy manner.
Also showed in the wet against the Tigers that his lack of speed can be not as obvious in less than ideal conditions. Makes the decision to not play him or Riley

in the atrocious conditions against the Bombres even more costly and mystifying.

Definitely good for depth for now, until Petracca, ANB etc find their feet and will inevitably overtake him in the pecking order.

I'm a believer.

Yes he's not the quickest but his skills and decision making are good enough to give him some longevity in this caper if he continues to work hard and improve on his two way running. As mentioned, this season mirrored the last with a run of games seeing an increase in his numbers and overall impact.

I hope to see him given reasonable opportunity in 2016.

yeah I think he has shown that he can play when has the ball in his hands. Most obviously later in the season. Has the ability to break free of packs before a penetrating kick into the forward line which I saw quite a few times. His Inside 50's were consistent.

Poita talked about 'his time in the system'. He got one game for freo and played 17 games for Melbourne. Might have been in the AFL system since 2011 but has not had much of an opportunity at top level. His last four games this season we great I thought. He also performed very well for Casey all year. I hope he continues to keep knocking on the door.

I think he will keep improving his defensive side. When we picked him up I was told by a freo physio that he was a bit of a hot head. I think he is a tougher player and look forward to seeing his hardness next year. Would like to see his tackling incres. Has a good base to work from now.

His first two year ar Dockers he virtually played no games in either the 1st or at Peel due to serious foot injuries (same injury as Trengrove). Then he got a half game against Geelong and won Peels B&F in his 3rd. Dockers wanted to resign him but Lyons said he could not guarantee him games. Came to Melb on Lyons recommendation so whilst he has been paid for 5 years he really has only 2 under his belt and a 3rd in the Wafl.

Worth persevering with and much better depth than MJones or Terlich.

His last few games were very promising.

this...

Viv is currently a true depth player with a possible upside

When we consider how good our list needs to be ...and I mean no disrespect to Michie...this is as where we need to be at least..I.e the minimum bar ought to be around here.

With another preseason...I think he might start to improve..What is it they all say....you need 50 games to get an idea with some

I really like the look of Viv. He's never going to be a star, but I can see him being the B grade workhorse for the team. He's solid, gets heaps of assists and rarely makes the stupid mistakes so many of our players do. If he can work on his goal-kicking he'll be a real asset.

i'm just not sold yet.

ANB will take some time. He's a midfielder, without the tank to be so at the AFL level.

He's been played as a small forward due to a dearth of options, and showed some promising signs. With another preseason or 2, he could become a real weapon rotating forward on displayed performances.

Edit: Apologies this isn't about Michie. But, realistically, ANB will hopefully fill the spot Michie is currently far better at the end of 2016.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
