Really question posters when they say, "at least he's better then XXX".

How is that a reason to get someone.

Jace Bode is better then Isaac Weetra. Dean Terlich is better then Jace Bode.

Anyone happy with those players.

Do player X make us a better 22/team?

I think Melksham will help us but he will be a role player.

So not for a pick 6 or 22. 3rd rounder is fair.

Nate Fyfe to the Dees on an 8 year deal.

Hope Melksham stays put. Wouldn't want him for anymore then 2 years and for no more then a 3rd round pick.

Bye the sounds of it, we've offered him at least 3 and Essendon want more then our 3rd rounder.

Lets hope Essendon give him the extra year and that ends it all.

Putting aside the WADA shennanigans for a second, Essendon are by a large margin the worst team in the comp to trade with. They severely overvalue every one of their players, which makes it almost impossible to trade with them. I wouldn't want the club wasting it's time negotiating a trade with these morons, let alone for a mediocre player like Melksham. We've got more chance of trading for Dangerfield.

Personally I think someone like Melksham would provide our group with a seasoned mid and will add to our midfield depth. They're intent on improving the list and sometimes improvements are incremental. He's ok both sides, he's no A-grader. But he's a matured mid, doesn't shirk, loves the game and if the deal is reasonable, back them in.

Goodwin has coached him, and from my POV he's a good judge of character.

Certainly ready to go mid, rather than a 18yo 3rd rd pick. Surprised by many outlandish statements.

If we were to net a quality mid plus Melksham in a months time, D'Landers would surely be beside themselves.

I know, was just paying along with Webber. He's overrated anyaway

has averaged 16 touches over his career

has never proven himself a competent mid

He's spent most of his time at half forward, rotating through the midfield.

lol the denial starts.

If we get him, is there a chance WADA could ban him for life? Because I'll take the stand.

Over his career, you're right, there's nothing to be excited about. But clearly Goodwin thinks he's a midfielder with all of the traits that we need that has gone backwards over the last couple of years and needs a change of scenery.

Worth considering Melksham's stats before the ASADA derailment, once he'd had a few years in the system. Averaged 20 disposals a game in 2013. Kicked 16 goals for the season too. If Goodwin brings the best out of him you've got someone in between Ben Newton and Dom Tyson there for output.

As I say, over his career he's certainly no star. But he's played over 100 games in a better side than ours, and in a side that has, in my opinion, a finals-quality list but for the ASADA stuff.

Agreed. He's rubbish, who'd want him?

I was purely arguing with his statement that he thinks Watts and Howe have underperformed and are not as good footballers relative to Melksham due to them not winning us games and being 100 game players.

I do have my concerns in terms of bringing him over impacting the game time we can get into our younger brigade, earlier I stated my main reasoning for not understanding bringing him in is that he is not immediately top 22 and thus will prevent players like ANB and Harmes getting games. ANB is not a small forward but rather a midfielder and will eventually push into this role and I would prefer to see him push into this role. That being said, I understand the need to continually improve the list and have no qualms if we are bringing players in to do so. Of course Goodwin and Taylor will have more idea on what they want to bring in and his strengths and weaknesses and as they have continually been doing good work i have no problems with any player they bring in.

The biggest concern i have is his percieved value by Essendon in terms of trade, they will argue he is a top 10 draft pick with potential, obviously a required player due to the 2 year contract offer and he has a top 5 in their BNF. That seems like late first round to early second round pick and personally i would rather go to the draft. A straight player swap and I think we would have more value on our list from Watts or Trengove or Howe than Melksham. So to me, it just seems like its a bit of a tough one because i see the trade being a third round pick, or a player like Toumpas + picks or something in that ilk, but its allabout risk v reward.

If we get him for the right price, great, we have improved our list.

We have given Watts and Howe ample opportunity to show what they are capable of and as we have seen they are not match winners or the players we expected them to be...some Essendon supporters might say they same about Melksham....

I would be happy with a straight swap with eithor Watts, Garland or Howe for Melksham...although Howe possibly has higher value to certain clubs.

I wouldn't. We should be aiming higher. Melksham is the bag of peanuts that we should be avoiding. Get proper (read elite) compensation for Watts, otherwise he stays. The same goes for Howe really.

No offence to Watts because I think he has been good for our club in a few ways, but try selling a player who has played almost every game for the year and only managed 18th in the B&F, straight swap for Melksham is a huge win for us, again, I think Howe has the most value on the market, but whoever takes him has not drafted a match winner, Howe can be handy and I will be sad to see him go, but he is never going to be that player for us, which is not to say his best football isn't ahead of him (at another club)...

I think you might be underestimating the potential of a package deal with Watts and thus he's a pretty good sweetner.

How many games did Melksham play, and where did he finish in the B&F for the team that finished 2 spots below us?

Melksham was Om 7 news tonight at dons BNF all other players wearing bombers ties melksham no, appears he won't be there next year!

Is that what we are basing player movements on now? What tie they are wearing?

Good lord.

Good expression of independence in my book.

I have serious doubts about Goodwin's judgment if this is true. This is not aiming high!

Yeah! What would that buffoon Goodwin know if he likes Melksham? It's not like he's coached with him or worked closely with him for several years or anything. We fans clearly know more than that idiot and his terrible judgement.

Mick Malthouse's love of Daisy Thomas clouded his views of an injury riddled player, past his best. And Carlton are paying for that decision big time. There are probably other players out there that offer more than Melksham, and could come at a lesser cost. Melksham's CV isn't impressive, and that's what most on here are judging him on.

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

  • PREGAME: Geelong

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
