All Australian 2015 - no Demons in squad

Featured Replies

AA has been a joke for years.

One day at a time Gorg.

Hardly a surprise.

We had one candidate IMO and he had a relatively poor second half.

That is our problem we have no good players who produce 90% of the time.

Shaun Burgoyne for a start... How he is in the squad I do not know. Armitage & Vince the most unlucky

Jack Steven also unlucky I reckon.

Vince not making the squad is a joke, but Armitage not even making the squad? lol

I should stop being surprised at the AA selections. Will just have to wait until we're playing finals to have a Demon selected, and even then it will be touch and go.

Shaw having a career best season, Laird also been terrific

The only one I'm really troubled by is Burgoyne. He is mysteriously and seriously overrated in 'official' and media circles, has been for years.

But I can't say I'm very concerned. It's all a bit of a grab bag. One of those things where it is nice to get it but not upsetting to miss.

Next year we'll have Hogan, Viney, McDonald, Gawn and Salem all under consideration. That's one in every area of the field.

I promise!

AA has always been a joke and always will be. The selectors can't have possibly seen enough games and kept the decision making process in perspective ie can you imagine The Hogester will the silver service mids from some of the top teams? Anyway, I still love my weekends with Bernie.

Burgoyne should be no where near that squad. It is laughable that he is even spoken of as as AA this year. He has looked completely shot at stages this year.

Rory Laird???? Who the hell is that? Swan, Ibbo also lame selections.

Hes the Adelaide small defender who has had an exceptional year.

How about Rioli versus Garlett, both play as small forwards with occasional runs through the midfield. One has kicked 35 goals in a side that has more inside 50's than anyone and has smashed most sides and has registered the most points kicked in the comp, the other has kicked 40 goals for a side with the second least inside 50's, that has been regularly beaten and occasionally smashed and kicked the second or third least in the comp. one is drooled over every week, sometimes for an eight possession game, the other politely complimented for his good work and the odd mercurial goal. Does Rioli get the nod due to his goal assist activities which are amazing but it is easier when the ball is coming in so often, so fast and into a usually disorganised defence.

What is their criteria for selection, is it just the stats that accompany each player in the list of 40?

An outrage that Bernie Vince didn't make 'ALL AUSTRALIAN'.

His numbers compare very well to many who made it.

Disgrace!

Not sure I'm that surprised or outraged TBH as we receive little recognition on anything anymore Picket but I was interested to see Pendles in there. Didnt think he had the greatest year but could be wrong as I dont watch Pies much outside of our matches. Mr. Vince beat him on both occasions.

Stiff, but wasn't making the 22 so who cares about the 40.

Every year they leave a bunch of good players out of the 40 for guys with bigger reputations. I'll save my outrage for when the team gets named.

Patrick Cripps also I would have thought.

Not sure if serious.

So Bernie was 11th in the coaches votes. All 10 players above him got AA noms.

Gray, Martin, Nic Nat, Rance, Deledio, Josh J Kennedy finished below him and also got noms.

Bernie's not the only one ...

2015 Stats

Nic Naitanui, West Coast 20 games in 2015. 116 kicks, 30 marks, 125 handballs, averaging 5.8 kicks, 1.5 marks, 6.3 handballs. 17 Goals, 12 Behinds. 676 Hit Outs (fourth in the AFL), averaging 33.8 per game. 79 Clearances, 53 Inside 50m, 14 Rebound 50m. 75 Tackles.

Stefan Martin, Brisbane 20 games in 2015. 238 kicks, 128 marks, 195 handballs, averaging 11.9 kicks, 6.4 marks, 9.8 handballs. 5 Goals, 9 Behinds. 650 Hit Outs (seventh in the AFL), averaging 32.5 per game. 96 Clearances, 69 Inside 50m, 28 Rebound 50m. 40 Tackles.

Outrage, shock, horror! Not really. Wouldn't be a starting best 22 midfielder so who cares!

Vince should have made the squad, Martin too. Niknat gets in on the fact the selectors masturbate over him like the commentators do, I swear to a diety that every time he is involved in the game there is a circle jerk going on in the commentators box.

I'm happy none of ours made it into the AA team.

they can focus on the next year ,forget the Irish game ,and avoid tags based on their status.

The worst year we ever had was when the press knew everything happening at the club.

The best in recent times was '87 when they had no idea who Lyon,Rigoni,Leoncelli,Newport etc were.

Not much press coming out of the MFC in Northeys days.

Lets fly under the radar and into September.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
