I think the main area is versatility.

Vanders is primarily an inside mid - but we saw him taking some solid marks forward and he had 17 shots on goal in his 14 games - if he could have kicked straight (5G12B) it would have been a very handy return.

Magner was very one dimensional.

I know we all get carried away at times but I think we're actually seeing a decent team getting cobbled together and it's very much about players like Vanders. He's a footy player...not something else with athleticism who also can play footy....NO, he's a fair dinkum realfooty player and what a difference this is making. Gus is a footy player. Salem one also.

Petracca is a gifted all rounder really but he moves and plays...footy.. How much easier to develop a plan/gamestyle when your players can intuitively play the game.

Hogan and Jeffy are just naturals.

There are others but Vanders is quite interesting. Very much looking forward to seeing a fitter and better prepared version taking the.field. I feel confident when he has the ball. He can play.

Because the amount of state league footballers that can come in and make an impact at AFL level is very, very minimal.  Barlow, and to some degree JPod are exceptions to the rule.  Hopefully AvB is too.

That said, the jury is out for me regarding AvB (lucky I'm on RPFC's ignore list).  He absolutely showed signs in his first year, I'm not disagreeing with that, but we have seen many a player show "signs", then find they don't/can't/won't take the next step.  I'm not suggesting he won't, I just have NFI which way he will go, and time will tell the tale for me.

Vandenberg hits the play, player and ball with aggro and an intention to have an impact.

Improving his fitness will increase his capacity to do this, hit more contests and make better decisions. Increasing his experience at this level (AFL) will improve his damage and ability to hurt the opposition.

Your first mistake is believing those numbers. No way was Magner 82kgs.. Just like Fyfe mentioned he was playing around the 92kg this year.

I his own way I feel he has already made that step.   I very much doubt he will be a flash in the pan type.

My first mistake? The comment was he was too big, are Ollie Wines or P Dangerfield too big at 92kg (quoted) or Dane Swan 93kg or Jab Watson at 94kg. He certainly wasn't too tall.

PS. I don't believe quoted height or weights, but they are a guide.
