I was telling my son just last night, that I remember when Ryan Ferguson refused to be traded to Hawthorn in exchange for Brad Sewell. Was I just dreaming that, or was that reality?

Yes. It was reality.

I also remember the following week, the last final we played in when we picked Nick Smith for his first game in 3 years in a loss at Freo.

And yet another question,.. If you weren't at the Western Oval and weren't born, where the hell were you on this balmy day 22 Dee greese Day??

I remember when we drafted Jimmy Toumpas.

And every melbourne supporter listening to the draft, asked why we didn't pick Wines..

I remember :

  • Robbie Flower marking in the Goal Square and setting the scene for our win against Nth Melbourne in the first final
  • Clapping him off in the last Qtr after his 5 goals
  • Beating Carlton in the last game, the year they won the Premiership (1971 I think)
  • Neeta running straught out on the lead and cleaning up the Southern Stand and then bombing it. Jesse will soon be doing that.

Forget about what I remember. The past is the past.

What's sad is that I have forgotten what it feels like to go to a game genuinely confident and EXPECTING to win. Last time was around 2006.

It's nine seasons.

BTW, as it stands, we are the worst performing club of all teams with the exception of the expansion clubs over the past 10 years, and the second worst club over the past 20 years.

Can you believe that? 20! We made six finals series in that time. That's how bad the past 9 seasons have been.

I'm still p'd off we didn't get that priority pick.

I remember 2010 - beating the Swans by 73 and taking the eventual-premiers to a 1-point loss and a draw. 8.5 wins for the year with a list promising bright futures for Scully, Morton, Grimes, Trengove, Frawley, McKenzie, Wonaeamirri, Watts, Jurrah and Benell. We looked to have a team of burgeoning champions setting up for a long period of contending in September. That was 5 years ago.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
