Mark Robinson

It pains me to say it but Mark Robinson's appraisal as to where we are at, in todays HUN rings alarmingly true!

Year after year, decade after decade, same best intentions, same ol demon result!

Except for some fleeting almost there moments "1987" for example!

Not sure what the "Fix" is but after being witness to the 64 Grand Final as a little tacker ( which I don't remember ) sheeit I reckon we are "Light Years" away from ultimate dream of a premiership

It has been 51 years !!

Just think about it over half a lifetime!!

Norm Smith Curse, Bad luck, Bad recruiting, or just plain Bad?!!

It is a hard road travelled being a DEE fan!

Harder than it should be!

In his 30 years on the job at the Herald Sun you'd have never known Mike Sheahan was a Melbourne supporter.

Yet, thanks to his bias and pathetic articles, everyone knows Mark Robinson is an Essendon supporter.

The difference between a fantastic balanced footy journo and the fat sack of [censored] that inherited his throne.

Robbo is a [censored], yes. But i put him in the Greg Denham category in Demonland, where as people despise him because they can't admit that the scathing things he says about us are actually true, for Denham in the past and Robbo now. Face the harsh reality that we are [censored] [censored].

Robb admits that we have changed in culture etc. but why is this not translating consistently to the field? Who knows.

But suck it up people, Robbo is right about us, as was Denham when he has been scathing on us in the past which i have said many times on here before.

Whether he's right or wrong, I'm not reading the article. I feel morally obliged to avoid reading his tripe. Can't believe this dribbling oaf has made a successful career out of the sport I love. He's inarticulate, doesn't seem to understand the game, and is hopelessly biased. I don't understand why he has the gig he has and I won't support it.

How could anybody read an article by somebody who has a vested interest in a team supporting a scourge of society....

I'm with you. Can't stand the guy.

But it's the things we hate about him that get him the gig.

He is colourful in an industry where so many spit the same line.

Still a first class [censored]-jockey though.

Some can hide it better than others. That actually used to be consider professional. Not any more it seems, which is why Robbo can rock up in the Fox Footy studio [censored] most nights.

Yes we all knew it

So no point writing it really. Just boring copy from a drunk

big deal. slobbo probably got his copy from trolling demonland anyway. told us nothing we didn't know or post

It's not so much about what he says, or what Denham says about us, as it is some peoples refusal on here to believe it.headInSand.gif

It is amazing how often they have been right about the MFC song.

In the last eight years Robbo and Denham 9/10. Us supporters 2/10.

Northern stand curse.

Would have taken him all of 5 minutes to bang out that article

nothing we here all haven't known for years...

Yes. We are bad.

Yes we have the same win loss ratio that we did at the same time last year.

Yes. We have a hell of a long way to go

But despite the bitter disappointment of being beaten by a motley crew of drug cheats, we are (generally) playing better than this time last year.

Slobbo has taken the opportunity to divert attention away from his beloved team's use of uncontrolled drugs in an unethical program of human experimentation.

It is bloody disappointing being a Demon fan, as it has been almost constantly since 1965, and Saturday's lost opportunity to make a statement that we have come a long way since 2014 was gut wrenching.

I must say after that, I will find it hard to get myself interested in next weekend's game - is it v the Bears? Rapidly losing interest.

I'm one of slobbos most ardent critics. The fact that a bloke who can barely string two words together is the chief footy writer for a major paper (FMD that's another story) makes it difficult for me to convince young people of the value of a higher education.

Then of course I realize that Slobbos 250+ games of AFL footy and his coaching career allow him to speak with such authority on all matters related to footy.

We can shoot the messenger,

We can?!?!? You bloody ripper! I bags first shot.

I didn't much like Sheahan but he hid his support (such as it was) well.

It was our dear old Eddie McGuire who broke the mould and showed that journos could show their allegiances. To the enrichment of us all. Thanks Eddie.

Robbo in this instance is harsh but fair.

Denham allowed his personal differences with certain officials to override his professionalism and he bagged us every single chance he got -- all knobs on 11 -- until that/those officials left. Overnight he became more balanced. Funny how that goes!

Like him or loath him, Robbo is about the only scribe holding Roos and the coaching staff even remotely acountable. I for one (without being dramatic) think there should be more scrutiny placed on the leaders within our football department.

Where there is a lack of accountability there is complacency.

I wonder if he would have written the same article after we beat geelong, so after two games latter we have not improved, its a bit premature, in all the stats we played all over bombers, its one game wait till end of season. I hate knee jerk reactions, next week the kangas will beat the druggers, they won't kick three times more behinds then goals, our wayward kicking walled papered over the cracks for essendon.

But it's not one game.

It's exactly what we did last year.

Beat crows in Adelaide, beat the Tigers, lost to Brisbane here

This year so far, beat cats in Geelong, Tigers and bullies who were flying at the time.

Lose to saints with 43 seconds to go, throw away big leads to port and GWS, lose to a demoralised bombers.

So far, nothing really has changed. Unless we win 3+ more games this year then I'll call this year a failure.

Yes we have improved and are more competitive, but like Roos said last night, we are now past just being competitive and have to win these games.

Add to that DeeZee that AFL games wise - we are still a young side which is going to have lapses on field and inconsistent results.

We just need to get games in to our kids - if Brayshaw, Petracca, Kent, Frost, Viney, Toump etc play 60 -80 games each then we may be a decent side.... Scully is a prime example of how a talented kid got better with experience.... He's now playing good footy and has played 100 games.

We didn't have the free handout GC or GWS got with unlimited talent, which makes us feel worse.

I think it was Bomber Thompson who said - you play your game style, you play it for 80 mins build it to 100 etc... We have a young list which have played 18 months under Roos. I dont' buy the hype just yet

But in saying all that the next few weeks (and remaining games) we have winnable games - it will be a big test for they boys - Geez I hope we can snare a few

Unfortunately not as young as Essendon or some others

Unfortunately not as young as Essendon or some others

We have some experience on the park but a good majority are under 80 games

Depends how deep u want to look and what your personal expectations are

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
