Can't understand taking a NQR in Spencer out to bring Fitzy who is also a NQR, in.

Their mids are fit, fast and get on the spread.

Tyson typified what we were like most of the night. Slow, lacking urgency and mediocre when kicking.

He is certainly a way off the pace.

Tyson is right off at the moment. So slow.

Bail is the worst footballer to ever play at te MFC. He is closely followed by Matt Jones.

Howe is a one trick pony.

Hogan ha a stinker and should not be allowed to extend his break again. His head was not in the gane and he looked like a bloke who had missed a month of footy.

Dunn's free/50m at the start of last quarter was the momentum sucker. He constantly does one stupid thing a week that ends up being so costly.

Tom McDonalds form has dropped right off. He was smashed tonight and constantly behind his man

I thought Tyson and Watts were just about our best tonight. Tyson ran out of legs a bit, but he was important when the game was in the balance.

Side note: Seeing Watts and Naitanui's hands meet for that mark was a very touching moment

Just saw Naitanui in the best players on afl.com.au. Am I judging him too harshly? I didn't think he impacted the result as much as a lot of others on that team.

Gus gone to hospital

Hope he's ok! :(

Hate to say it, I reckon that is it for the season!

He gave their mids first use, which meant they were effective.

Really? I don't think he impacted the game much at all.

Maybe I missed something?

I can tell you why Riley didn't play - he's freaking awful.

And has absolutely no tank! And he would have blown up a qtr time in the Darwin heat.

But simpletons like PF don't realize that.

Will be gone at years end.

Gawn was killed by a good ruckman. He might do alright against very mediocre opposition but I'm yet to see him dominate a good opponent. The second half of the season will tell us a lot about our ruck stocks.

You've gotta be trolling with a post like that...

I thought Tyson was probably better than Jones. Possessions had more meaning. Vince started slowly and never really hit a high. West Coast's midfield is just a juggernaut though. Completely overwhelmed although Brayshaw would've helped

McDonald had alright moments tonight but to me it looks like his confidence is slipping fast.

Garland was ok but should've probably helped with the talls more.

Agree with the first part. Disagree on McDonald and Garland. Both were ordinary. McDonald was beyond ordinary.

Yeah I'm not a fan either.

You know we are in trouble when posters think Reily and Fitzpatrick should have been playing

Based on what? The fact we are cursed?

Based on the fact that he would have gone for Scans, if any neck, cervical problem is detected, I reckon we will be ultra cautious and put him in cotton wool! As we should!

For the most part he had a pretty easy ride. Gawn's and Spencer's vertical leap combined isn't half of Naitanui's. I think Naitanui's really become something potent this year, best season by a fair way

But it was still a mark for Watts. Even if you subscribe to the "pay the man in front" approach, we've seen repeated examples this season of the man in back being paid the mark because he came down with it. They paid one against us (Garland I think) in the goalsquare a few weeks ago. If Schultz, Buddy, Lynch, Walker, Elliot or however many other forwards from more respected sides took that it would have bee paid in a heartbeat.

First quarter aside I actually thought Gawn held his own.

After an utterly appalling first term, Toumpas eradicated his errors, but struggled to have much impact on the game. He still struggles to take that first option. Almost all of his errors were because he failed to take that early option. I would play him next week though. I'd bring in JKH for Bail though. Lumumba probably comes in for Matt Jones. Can we somehow drop Howe and call it general soreness, so as not to drop his trade value? Don't think Spencer will play next week either.

Just looked at the heat maps. Our mids were getting all of their touches of half back. We are seriously missing Salem and Harry. The heat maps when they are in show a lot more of our mids getting it in the centre and forward of centre.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
