Phil Walsh found dead overnight

It's almost taken Walsh's death for many to realise just how bad ice is.

I've been to plenty of homicides and serious assaults, a large number attributed to ice.

There's no reasoning, no talking someone down who's on ice. People who suggest we have dedicated rooms like we do for people who inject Heroin are kidding themselves and have no real idea of how people react to ice.

Those of us who see the affects almost daily have been seeing these sorts of things for years.

Tougher penalties for possessing ice would be a start. $100 fine from the courts for possessing is simply not good enough.

I think many people have needed to assume something like ice was involved to at least try and fathom how something like that may have happened.

I said to a friend, if it wasn't ice, it's even more unbelievable and impossible to even reconcile how the events transpired.

Of course, it makes it no easier to accept.

I do hope that the full story is shared (if the Walsh family are up to that) if there are drugs involved. We need to get things into the public domain so people can make informed decisions about what choices they make in regards to illicit drug taking.

(I apologise if the above is perceived as specilating beyond the point of reasonableness, it's not my intention to offend, rather comment on my nervousness of the ice / drug culture sweeping this country).

Tragic news whatever the causes. Still digesting it.

The Crows also lost Dean Bailey last year. Brought home at the moment because he almost certainly would have been interim coach, and then ... well, we'll never know.

Cruel, hard times.

Sobering! I told my family today how much I love him and if nothing else, lets gather around all family and express same!

The reality is you never ever know when your times up!

Live each day well, give praise to those who deserve and need it, offer encouragement and support to those that need it and keep each in care!

VALE Phil Walsh! This is extremely disturbing, on a number of levels!

I hope some good comes from this tragedy!

Don't feel it right now though!

Christ this just gets more heart breaking the more you hear of it. Stabbed in the back while he was in bed. Jesus.

The football community has united not only over the tragic passing of Phil Walsh but on a lesser scale but with no less grief and passion for their loss, these communities gathered together at their sporting places to mourn teenagers Jason Breakwell, Sharn Walker and Felisha Allen who lost their lives when the car they were in hit a tree last week.

Rivalries aside, the hills community stands as one.

Such is life and such is death.

Not much has been said about Phil's son, Cy except for a story with 'nomad' in the headline. Much has been noted about Phil rebuilding his relationship with Cy.

While casually reading the sports reports I came across this from Alan Richardson:

"I didn't have a lot to do with Phil. I had a lot to do with getting him to Port Adelaide. I met with Phil halfway through the year when he was with West Coast," Richardson said.

"It was pretty clear his want was to get to Adelaide to get closer to his son."

At the core of his being, whether drug affected or not, Cy would know that he was a much loved son.

At some level he would know that his father was making up for lost time, the time lost with him.

So it is unimaginable what Cy will go thru. He will have to live with his crime.

More than that he will have to live without anymore time with his father.

He has deprived himself of one of life's most precious gifts.

That may be a greater burden than any the justice system can issue.

Here is a young man who seems to have done no wrong in the past.

But in a moment of frenzy has shattered his own world and the world of those he loves and love him.

I feel great compassion for him.

I hope he is treated well by the press as the story unfolds.

And if there is to be a lesson from this tragedy it is to tell your family you love them.

And, it is to spend time with them, to do things with them.

This was so beautifully said in the song: 'Cats in the cradle':

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
