Reported his son [allegedly] killed him last night.

Vale Walsh.

Will the crows play this weekend?

at this stage it's "alleged" only

Feel for the wife, her son [allegedly] kills her Husband, that's a lot to deal with.

Horrible, horrible news to wake up to.

Sad day for AFC.

Arguably the worst story ever in AFL. We've never had a player killed on the field as far as I can remember, and for a unexpected tragedy like this to happen is unprecedented.

I'm honestly sitting in shock on the train, what is wrong with this world.

Every so often with footy, something happens that just completely rocks you, and this is one of those.

Best wishes to his wife, and his daughter who I believe is overseas.

Holy wow! That's quite shocking. Do the Crows play this week?

Incredible. I woke up to SEN and they were saying to forgive them as they weren't really prepared to deal with it and were still digesting it like everyone. I thought there had been another Port Arthur or another Lindt cafe' type situation somewhere.

Just a horrible situation for everyone concerned.

R.I.P. Phil Walsh

What a horrible week - thought that the Roughie and Bennell situation was bad enough but this takes the cake.

Horrible, horrible situation for all concerned.

Thoughts are with his extended family and the Crows

It is [censored] horrible. He seemed like a weird/eccentric, but nice bloke.

Couldn't begin to imagine what the wife is going through... The players too, it's hit hard to the general public let alone those close to him. IF drugs were involved which could be the case, it might take an incident like this for the whole country to realise this [censored] isnt acceptable... Don't know how the weeken of football pans out this weekend, you couldn't imagine the adelaide players could take the field

Absolutely sickening, and heart rending. My guess is the round will be abandoned.

I think that's the least that should happen BD. Not sure how or whether that's contractually possible. Most likely Gill will have another pressser 2 days running.

Awful news. So shocking.

I was listening to them break the story on SEN as I was driving into work and couldn't believe it

A family torn apart. Just horrendous.

Thats bloody horrible. RIP Walshy. Thoughts with your family,

I feel physically sick. I was on my way to work when my husband rang and told me. I feel for everyone involved - its tragic. There is no way those players could get out there on Sunday and nor should they be expected to.

Its wrong to speculate the circumstances on how it happened. But geez we have lost players before ie Broadbridge and McCartney in tragic circumstances but a coach murdered. Holy hell.

Im not really sure how this whole round can be played. I mean im sure it will still go ahead, but im sure other coaches are in shock and players that knew him. Certainly im not sure how the geelong adelaide game can go ahead.

Geez Gill thought his biggest problem was the drugs code. This will hit the AFL hard as well.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
