MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 11

Purple actually has something decent to say about a Dees player:

Melbourne
we're talking about Sam Mitchell ... ... we pose this question: is his title as best exponent of an opposite foot kick under threat? Yep, it is. Angus Brayshaw has arrived.

The media have not been our back to much of late. I guess there are other fish to fry (Suns, bombers, blues, lions). Nice to see other clubs getting some heat. But also we have been playing some good footy so there is no reason for the media to beat up on us.

Good team, looks balanced. Surprised Fitzy comes out considering Garland is gone, but we can get away with two KPD on Roo and Bruce.

Hopefully Michie or Riley starts as sub. Get some responsibility on the younger guys' shoulders and see how hungry they are to make an impression.

An interesting/strange bench: I/C: Billy Stretch, Viv Michie, Aidan Riley, Alex Neal-Bullen

Special moment for ANB and Stretch when they go out together (and when they relay the ball down the middle to get ANB his first goal!)

Didn't expect the Stretch/Fitz swap, but otherwise as expected after seeing the extended bench.

Best of luck to ANB on debut. Hopefully Stretch can step up too - very, very inexperienced looking side this.

Fitzy out. Glad to see. I love him but we were way too tall down back.

Not only that, I'm glad to see they're taking a "horses for courses" approach with Fitzy. They obviously had him in the squad in the first place because they expected Hickey to play. Now he's not, it's the right move to leave out Fitzy.

I'd like to think they've learned from when we went in far too tall against GWS & got run off our feet.

I remember a young McLean and Sylvia at Etihad or whatever the [censored] it was called back then waxing all game against Richmond in a nice win.

Something similar from ANB and Stretch in any sort of win thank you please lads.

And Port, and Collingwood...

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
