Dees2014, what makes you think that Hird and Reid will be called to/allowed to be witnesses?

And how are they relevant to the specific appeal against the players or Danks?

I would have thought if ASADA had a skerrick of evidence against Hird and Reid they would have already used it.

Keep in mind WADA can bring in new evidence only if it was not known at the time of the AFL Tribunal.

We are working under CAS rules here. WADA can bring any new evidence up they like - it is not like a local court. That is why Hird and his mates are in such panic. Most of the new evidence will come from the witnesses who were nobbled by Hird's hatchet men before the AFL Tribunal hearing, but this time they will be compelled by the Victorian courts to give evidence under oath to CAS. And they will. It is Essendon's and Hird's worst nightmare.

As far as why this seems as though it is at the last minute, well for the AFL Tribunal witnesses were not required to give evidence under oath basically on a technicality which does not exist for CAS and most legal experts seem to agree that this time these witnesses will no longer be able to hide behind a technicality. Further, the prosecution of coaches under ASADA/WADA is not unusual to follow a guilty case against players. Just look at the famous cycling cases where the cases were well and truly proven before infraction notices were even served on coaches and doctors. The same will happen here.

I read a few days ago that the WADA brief to CAS was going to contain new evidence but I haven't seen anything further on that point since.

My guess is that its fifty/fifty as to whether a hearing involving Dank will ever take place.
