Wasn't it ASADA's job to join the dots, rather than the Tribunal? That may sound like a pithy and pedantic comment, but wasn't that the way the process was meant to work? ASADA had to present a case that would "join the dots" to the comfortable satisfaction of the Tribunal and, in the Tribunal's view, failed to do so.

Most important that WADA tackle the inference that the AFL could be, in conjunction with the imprimatur of any Australian Government silly enough to condone, considering walking away from an international drug enforcement agreement and playing by themselves.

One idea that I have would be if I was WADA to start sounding as if this case is going to be "RUN FROM THE ROOFTOPS" with evidence to be, during the case, put out there for everyone to know about not just in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia but seeing as this case could be a potential watershed for the world to digest in World Sporting circles in particular.

I imagine other people have other ideas as well.

F me, people are stupid if they think that Essendon had smoking gun evidence of their innocence and handed it over without keeping a copy, and even if for some ridiculous reason that happened, they'd be jumping up and down making sure the public knew about it alot sooner than this.

James hird's ability to warp reality to suit his situation is the smoking gun evidence of who is guilty or innocent

the same man claimed at the press confrence that they self reported in that he didn't know what the players were given, there was no way of knowing, but it wasn't TB4 wink wink

now he's claiming they did know, it was on a spreadsheet that ASADA apparently destroyed to strengthen their case, because like the rest of the world they're part of a massive conspiracy to get james hird

I mean come on, they undertook a two year multi million dollar injection regime that was as they said themselves " experimental" and didn't keep records, obviously they didn't have any interst in seeing what results their money bought about...

They have consistently backflipped on their own story depending on the most pressing public allegation at the time.

Accusing ASADA of delivering an unlawful investigation, destroying evidence, and going out of it's way to harrass the club.

it's a scatter gun argument, shoot at as many points as they can and hope someone is stupid enough to listen.

AFL tips EFC off

ASADA investigate EFC only to find no records, and noone seemingly having a club what had been going on for the previous two years

I wonder what happened in between those two events...

Does grandad take him to the "red and blue shop"?

My recollection of the AFL agreeing to be under the WADA code was that federal government funding was at risk, including money to be spent on stadiums.

If the AFL forged ahead without WADA it would be the beginning of the end of the AFL as the number 1 code in Australia.

Is there any real doubt in hindsight why these 3 "wise' ones were selected by the AFL ?

It's the same as the way High Court judges are chosen by the govt. (especially so in the US/Supreme court.)

The candidates are not corrupt. But they are selected for their known predisposition to certain ways of thinking.

As soon as I heard that David Jones was the chairman, my heart sank. He's the one who managed to find Barry Hall not guilty of striking and freed him up to play in a grand final.

As for the AFLPA, they are simply showing what their real mission is, and that is to protect the players MONEY, in preference to their health. Watch them change tack when guily verdicts are given, or positive test results are found. Then it will be six shooters blazing into the sky, while they charge like a western posse towards the nearest court. Their behaviour in all of this has been disgusting also, but you can read their future like a book.

I get that the AFLPA is looking after the player's interests whatever they. If it's money, then the AFLPA has to stick up for that.

But I don't get how the AFLPA has been sucked into this "ASADA are bad guys" narrative.

Why aren't the AFLPA demanding that Dank, Alavi, Charter, whoever, are made accountable for whatever the flip was stuck into those players?

Why aren't the AFLPA demanding that the players get to know exactly what happened to them?

In your letter "S", there are some dots so close together that I can't be comfortably satisfied that is actually IS the letter "S".

Therefore I cannot read whatever it is that you are saying. Your whole phrase must be thrown out.

Why don't the AFLPA have comprehensive records of all things injected into all players by all clubs? one would think that's the type of thing they'd have an interst in.

Thats precisly what I was trying to say. They have chosen to protect player income, over player health. Sticks out like dogs thingys.

They should be threatening essendrug with court action, unless they can prove what went inside the players.

The players association wouldnt have the right to have the records, only the right to seek access to them if something is supected of going wrong., through a court.

I notice on here recently that many are calling for Essendon to be suspended for 2-4 years or banned altogether. I think we should be a bit careful what we wish for. How about something like this?

A. Essendon admit their responsibility for this affair, and apologise to the broader football community for bringing the game into disrepute, and putting their players health at risk, and apologise to the broader Australian sporting public for tarnishing the good name of Australian sport;

B. Hird, and his key staff get life bans, some of the Board including Little resign, and basically rebuild the club from within. The new administration would then have to undertake to put in place a governance regime reflecting the WADA code and best practice risk management; and

Maybe some good could come out of all yet.

Agree about careful what you wish for. But:

A. I don't care if Hird/EFC admit responsibility (I do care if they admit guilt). I don't care if they apologise to anyone or no-one. I do want Hird punished.

B. On Life Bans: Most of Hird's staff at the time are gone as are most of Little's then board and a new governance regime is already in place. To ban Hird's then staff is only going to penalise a lot of people who have gone on with their lives, had little to do with the 2012 program and are at other clubs eg our very own Simon Goodwin...I want him coaching at the Dees not on the sidelines, watching.

So, yes I agree with the careful what you wish for sentiment but don't share your 'wishes.'

Plenty of good has already come out of it and the AFL game will be stronger regardless. Having said that nothing will change the AFL's penchant for controlling, pulling strings and favours.

FWIW. I think the players will be found guilty and will receive suspensions (< 1yr) which will be backdated so they will not miss games. I am ok with such an outcome as the players aren't the real villains here. I doubt EFC will be punished from the WADA appeal. (Can't speak for the Worksafe review)

So Esssendon will continue as a viable entity.

As for Hird, throw the book at him!!

In normal circumstances i'd agree with you, but i'd strongly argue that due to the sheer weight of injections, the question makes surrounding the legality of the injections and so on they'd have a duty of care to know what the players were being injected with, and keep a record of that incase health issues arise

RANT OVER

essendon never "just handed over documents"

all handovers were documented by legal eagles on both sides following well established procedures using deloittes under contract

both sides would have copies and fully documented receipts

hird could be sued for his pathetic comments

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
