Well he is not exactly what you would call an 'impact sub' - usually you want your sub to be someone who can come off the bench and give you a lift for the last quarter by possibly snagging a goal or two, or using some pace to nail a few tackles and get a few kicks.

McKenzie is not that sort of player.

Agree. When they picked him I figured the Melbourne coaching staff had a cunning Jordie plan. It almost gave me some hope but to have him as the sub I would have preferred a Bail or M. Jones who would at least give us some run, speed and the ability to play out of the centre.

Him being the sub imo suggests Roos is confident we'll put up a fight. Bring him in around the 3rd or start of the 4th to put the final clamp down in the midfield and let us hold out.

Disagree, I reckon it indicates that Roos wants heavy contact, tight contested footy all day and is expecting the fight to go all four quarters, so having another hard nut to provide relief makes total sense.

The impact type subs can be hit or miss/ all or nothing types. Often it's hard to pick up on the pace of a game in the late stages.

Maybe having a steadier option is a reasonable way to go - McKenzie can play in the midfield, as a defensive forward and down back.

Having said that I would have preferred an extra tall because of the Sandilands factor.
