It just doesn't really stack up, unless there is something off field we don't know about.

• Good key forwards are hard to find
• He had a horrible year, so floating him for trade would be poor form
• Given the year he had, his value would be nowhere near as high as it could be
• We had already decided to move on Watts, so moving on Hogan also would be a huge call

i'd hazard a guess, if hogan isn't in it, that these are the top 6 untradeables: gawn, oliver, petracca, viney, t mac, jones (plus all the other veterans like jones by default, more or less)

Glad to see Jarrad Waite's 24 disposal one goal game landed him at full forward in the AFL's team of the week.

Meanwhile, Hogan's 22 disposal 5 goal game didn't warrant a guernsey.

could be a 70 goal season coming up. Absolute running machine, has his run up sorted out too

Perhaps there are different teams.  This is the AFL Player Ratings team.

Waite's player rating was 146 as opposed to Hogan's 133, so I guess there's no nuance.

Not sure how McKenna warranted a place either he was decent but not a standout player. 

Think there's some confusion between the Official ratings best 22 and Kane Cornes' AFL team of the week.

As for the latter, he had Tom Mitchell on the bench and Dangerfield AND Ablett on the ground.  Anyone who saw that game would agree Mitchell was better than both of the Geelong players.

Cornes had Garlett in a pocket and Hogan on the bench.  No sign of Oliver.

He tends to poke at the ball a bit, not a long and fluent kicking action.

he can easily kick 50m when he's on the run

it's more to do with his awkward set shot 'technique'

A lot of players would benefit from a set shot technique which was simply go back far enough so that they can have a shot on the run.

Hogan kicks goals from 40 metres easily. He kicks them from 50 metres too but some people expect him to kick much further to be more effective it seems.

If his role was to regularly kick from the 50m line it might become an issue.

But it isn’t and won’t. He’s got 8 goals on the board from 2 games so it’s a non-issue for most people.

There has not been one mention of it in the media. Hoping that answers my question in itself.

He kicks 60 this year/we play deep into finals, and plays with the same aggression pretty much throughout the year and he will be made the offer of a lifetime.

At that point which is quite do- able he would be mad to uproot and leave.

not sure what one i was looking at but this one doesn't even have Mitchell of Hawthorn in the team and he was sensational (a bit critical of him - he gets it a lot but doesn't tend to hurt you - he was fantastic on Monday - go figure). I watched the North game and that is why I am not a fan of ratings - pretty simple who was a more valuable player - Hogan v Waite.

This guy seems to have gone to another level this year. He seems to be really enjoying his footy and the freedom that had come from playing further up the ground and being allowed to play his natural game rather than sitting in the goal square with defenders hanging off him. His body language has improved exponentially and he is in career best form.

This is a credit to a young man who endured a year of hell in 2017. I look forward to watching the rest of his season and career play out, he will be a key piece to our 13th flag when we finally get there.

Nobody can ever really understand the mental burden that Jesse was carrying last year. Just waiting for the moment your father passes, then dealing with the reality of it, then getting cancer. Jesus if that doesn’t break you, nothing will. 

Had he said “forget footy” I would have understood. Hell if he said “I need to go back to Perth” I would not have begrudged him. But credit to his resilience and maturity, that he has come through the worst a human can go through, and is now better for it. 

I hope we throw a cheeky 5 year deal in front of him, with a nice number of zeros on it, so we can seal the deal. Trac, Oliver, Gawn and Viney are secured, he remains the last piece (and TMac/Omac but I assume that’s a formality).

100% correct, from my own experience  watching/ caring for my wife as she had terminal cancer , she passed 18 months ago

no one understands how anyone feels about this,  we knew and had warnings but not a day goes by that its not on your mind, 

even now after time , it doesn't stop . I draw strength from this with my own treatment now. but i still we go on everyday. try to be normal

Jesse is a very strong Young man and has proven this with his determination and chats we have had. I and glad to see him flying and hope soon we will see him holding up a cup .......

Its not him who we need to worry about. Its the ANBs, Buggs, Kents, Garletts, Fritsch, Melkshams and Hannans of our team. We need Jeffy to kick his bag of 40 and the rest 15 to 25 each. 

Add our mids kicking 8 to 10 each and we have a potent team.

I for one am amazed at the type of player that he is. And by that, not amazed overall at how good he is, but I thought he would be a brute force, stay in the 50m arc, monster defender type of guy...my, he is far far more evolved than that. I was fortunate to watch him up at the GABBA and the bloke has wheels - and THEN he shifts into midfield to tackle a guy who was 4 steps ahead of him. He is explosive with his pace... It's a nice surprise to have a talent who fits in with how the modern game is played.

I thought it was his worst game for the year watching it live. Not to say it wasn’t a good game, just not as good as all his others. 

Just saw the stats, 22 touches, 8 marks and 3 goals. He is in some sort of form if that’s a quiet game. What a beast.
