Tomorrow's obituary column will include the death of the group formerly known as "The keeping a lid on Jesse Hogan hype" movement.

Paul Roos, their spiritual leader, attempted to keep the movement alive last night by declaring Hogan was just one of the new, tough kids at the Dees and it wasn't as if he had kicked ten (goals). He was last seen in a giggling fit after leaving the media conference

2 goals a game is ok, but the really good forwards, like Carey, averaged 2.67 goals a game.

Carey kicked 0, 38 and 28 in his first three years. 1.69 goals a game. :)

Does anyone know the record for most goals kicked by first/second year player? - Cameron?

Jackovich kicked 71.57 in 14 games in his first season. He also kicked 50+ in the reserves.

He must have carried some first game nerves, missed a few gettable shots in the first few rounds and the last two games have had wet halves. Looking forward to seeing what he might do in the coming weeks. We've been waiting a long time for this.

WE SIMPLY CAN'T LET THIS KID LEAVE US. 2017 HE IS SIGNED TIL. AFTER THAT, GIVE HIM WHATEVER HE WANTS.

I concur, but I do so in my inside voice.

How? Just, how?

How is that possible? It's like some ancient Greek legend far before my time that cannot possibly have happened despite my having heard it so often.

Darren Cuthberson kicked 19 goals in his first three games.

Sheedy at the time said it was the greatest debut he had ever witnessed.

He may not be in the top 50 players in the comp yet, but he is the most valuable player in the AFL. There is not a single player in the league you would trade for him straight up.

I might be tempted by Fyfe but only if we could secretly clone Hogan first.

He was also 22 when he started playing for us.

Meanwhile, the Hulk looks like holding the lead in the contested mark stakes, one ahead of Hooker from the Bombers. They're starting to put a gap on the rest of the field. I think Hogan had significantly harder conditions to play under to get his as well.

Ladies and gentleman I give you The kid versus the All Australian

Go Jessie!

Not to in any way downplay Hogan's game but I never bought into the Rance being "best KPD in the league!!!11!!" hype. He's a solid defender, but seeing Hogan outmark him on several occasions didn't shock me.

McPharlin will be a better test for Hoges.

And yes, give him what he wants. If he wants a Boyd-like contract, do it.

I watched Jakovitch's first game - against Adelaide in Adelaide on the tellie. The first thing he did was fix up Hughes who had tried to fix him up in the goal square. The cameras cut out just as he got to Hughes. I remember thinking, I like the boy, he taketh no [censored].

For me now (after having been in the keep a lid on it crowd) having Hogan in the team is like knowing you own Black Caviar after her first four races. There is nothing you would trade not even Fyfe.

I agree that he is the most valuable asset in the comp. If every team just reset their lists and there was some sort of ultradraft, he would go at #1. It's hard to believe he's ours. I hate jumping the gun with grandiose statements but how can you argue with what we have seen on the field? Imagine him in about 8 years time when he is in his prime FMD

Reckon he'll still get overlooked for the rising star nomination this week. They'll give it to Cripps of Carlton. 33 touches and a goal!

...against St Kilda.

But yeah you're probably right. If Hogan does miss out he'll be getting one soon. It would be nice for it to be this game though, given it was a breakout game of sorts.

You weren't around to witness the great one? I was there, I saw it with my own eyes and I assure you, he was every bit as great as the legends say.

I remember a quote from an opposition coach after he had decimated their side, I think it was Schimmelbusch after Jakovich kicked 11.8; he said "he's in the middle of a purple patch right now, and it's pretty purple".

We've had these freaks come along over the past 20 years but their flame has burnt out far too quick - Jakovich from 91-94, Schwarz 92-94 and Farmer 98-2000. Hogan looks to be the next level and let's hope he can rip up the G and put the fear of God into opposition defence and supporters for the next 15 years in the red and blue and help deliver that long elusive cup back to the home of footy and the club that created it all.

Nup. Still don't believe it.

Well prior to the game he had not been beaten in a one on one this year nor had a goal kicked on him. He is in the reigning AA team.

Its a fair scalp for a three gamer.

Jacko still holds the record for the fastest time to 100 goals. No body in history was faster .

Just loved watching him!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Some veteran Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you the following observations from another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
