We haven't beaten North in an away game on a Saturday since 1991. That day Jako kicked 11.8. I doubt half of the people on this forum were born back then.

And if we win it will take us to 11 wins and our best win result since 2006.

That is truly amazing. Can't think of any other team having such a bizarre statistic. For another Melbourne-based team, it fits firmly in the "embarrassing record" basket.

Here's another zinger:

Melbourne have beaten North Melbourne as the away side twice since 1991. 1997 and 2006.

EDIT - We also beat them in 2005 up in Manuka as the away side.

And 1997 I believe was Round 1, North were hot favourites, we came out raring to go and beat them.

The following week we lost to Collingwood by 100 points.

Spot on.

According to the Goodwin mantra this group is creating its own history.  On that basis though we've lost to North once so we have history for the first time and need to rectify it by winning this week.  I think that first encounter will sting the team, it's a pity Bernard is not playing, he has some skin in it with Cunnington.

The last time we beat North Melbourne in Round 20 2006 we were the away team.

It's time to finally beat North.

Understatement of the century.

Much like time to win a flag, and Jetta is a good player.

Indeed we were the away side in 06.

However my post was that we haven't beaten North as the away team on a Saturday since 1991.

yeah I know, I'm being a bit silly with these random useless facts.

We are smashing records at the moment. I want to have to change my identity at the end of the footy season. Every 4 number pin I have is 1964. Every password revolves around that. I'd love to change it all to 2017.

Good lord, we could get into all of each other's accounts!

Another embarrassing record - been trying without success to win in Hobart since 14 June 1952 (Fitzroy took us down that day).

Just on that... I  try and link up who posts on here and then  the Demonland Facebook page - looking for syntax similarities etc etc...but you're right - a straw poll would perhaps  over 50% with 1964

Whilst every win is important, and to end such significant hoodoo's or get the monkey off the back so to speak.....this game to me has more importance than any of the other previous lost games streak v North. Given where we were as a club, and where we are at this point - a candidate for top 4.

Win this:-

• and top 4 is still a very good chance

• closer to cementing finals for 2017, first time since 2006.

• could well be the final nail

in Brad Scott's coffin as Norf coach.

• could help Norf achieve wooden spoon.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
