I think it's not a coincidence - we've definitely played better footy at the narrower grounds - Etihad and Adelaide Oval.  I think maybe our zone holds up better.

I thought Adelaide oval was similar dimensions to the G didn't realise it was narrower. Do you know what the new WA ovals dimensions are?

Irrelevant. Writing off 9 attempts is ridiculous. It's embarrassing that we haven't beaten North for over 10 years. At least with a team like Hawthorn or Geelong you know they both had eras of greatness so it's not surprising if you haven't beaten them for a few years. North however have been a bog average middle of the road side.

We will beat them this weekend. If we don't, I'll burn the MCG to the ground.

North have made a few prelims in that time, hardly a Richmond type team you're talking about

I think it's going to be MCG-like so very different from Subi which will be good.  Altho maybe Subi suits our style too? It will be interesting to see how we go there. No KP this year which is very narrow.

If so that would reduce a major advantage the WA clubs have but may also help WCE win at the G (although Freo don't seem to have that problem)

This is an interesting read and maybe a partial answer (probably a stretch but intriguing if so). http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2016-02-19/new-cockburn-base-has-best-of-everything

Freo's new training facilities include 'a main training oval big enough to replicate every AFL ground and a GPS program that shows instantly where goal posts and markings need to go to mirror venues such as the MCG, SCG, the Gabba, Adelaide Oval and WA’s Domain Stadium'.

Field of play dimensions will be 165m along the east-west axis and 130m on the north-south axis. This is slightly shorter than Domain Stadium (Subiaco Oval) but aligned with the MCG, which is 160m x 141m

Here's another Hoodoo to throw in the mix.

Melborne have never won a game at Treagar Park. Yet the club insists on farming out crucial home games to this [censored] House idea.

Does it make any difference? We can't win at the MCG anyway.

  • 4 weeks later...

So we keep ticking them off, as someone said earlier in this thread we hadn't won at Traeger Park before and that's gone.

But next week comes a very big one that I'd really love to see us break. Winning in Perth! Round 1 2004 was our last victory in Perth, let's knock this one out!

For the last decade or so we've been more bad than good, but, it seems to me, particularly in June. I'd like to see us go through June undefeated. The last time that happened was 2006. We still have to beat West Coast and (because of the 6 day break) Sydney on 30 June.

Perhaps it's more a challenge than an "embarrassing record" per se, but to go through June 4-0 (plus the bye) would see that particular challenge knocked off the list.

Got my good and bad back to front!

Before last Sunday, the last time we beat the Dogs at Etihad as an away game was round 2 2005.

And it was the first time we beat them at Etihad on a Sunday as the away team since round 22 2001 (We did beat them on a Sunday as the home team in round 16 2004).

Agreed, and the last time we beat Wet Toast in Perth was 2002 !

Have we ever played them at night in Perth?

As we keep on winning, these hoodoos are going to become more and more obscure.

So never in the last 25 years then

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

First win vs Eagles in 8 years

First time that we've won 4 in a row in 11 years

First win in Perth in 13 years

First win vs Eagles in Perth in 15 years

Yep.

Snaps a 9-game losing streak vs West Coast, a 9-game losing streak vs West Coast at Domain, and a 17-game losing streak at Domain in general.

Another one bites the dust ?

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
