Finally on the way?

Surely that's the best side we've listed since 2007.

Young, good mix of experience, some potential A graders. A genuine forward, developing midfield, settled coaches and admin and probably another top 3 or 4 pick coming at years end. Throw in a couple of decent trades and it's not unrealistic seeing us move up the ladder next year. Wow footy may actually interest me again

I think this side has potential for success and the right grounding for sustained success. But we all thought we had that in 2010 and 2011.

I mean if you look at all the position groups with a discerning eye you can see there's still a lot of work to go.

Last year the main players that we 'found' were the recruits - Tyson, Cross and Vince. Besides from that we had a few players cement themselves and a glimpse of some future talent, but that's about it. Dunn and Jetta improved. Howe nailed a half back spot. At the same time we lost Frawley and Clark for good.

Tomorrow we get 4 new guys trying to cement their spot - Lumumba, Newton, Frost and Garlett. Plus we need more from the guys who in the past have just been nice to watch here and there. By that group I mean Salem, JKH, Hogan, Toumpas, Kent. This years bonus players so far are vandenBerg and Brayshaw.

It's an exciting team tomorrow and if a lot of tomorrow's team can perform well enough to not get dropped and see us win 6 or even 8 games then I think we'll be on to some sustainable. But we can't roll this group out for a 3 or 4 win season because that probably indicates we aren't going anywhere in a hurry and the development still isn't working.

Its a good side but wouldn't say its the best since 2007..

Gee the bar is set pretty low if we are saying since 2007. God I hope Dazzle is right.

It's going to be a tough year with many ups and downs. This IMO looks like our most competative seasons for close on a decade. What I don't want to see is another capitulation like the second half of last season. Fighting out a solid season is a must for us.

I think 5-6 wins. We are reliant on youth and that takes time.

I think this is at the positive end of the scale, atthisstage ...

2014 >

12 Gold Coast 22 10

13 Carlton 22 7

14 Western Bulldogs 22 7

15 Brisbane Lions 22 7

16 Greater Western Sydney 22 6

17 Melbourne 22 4

18 St Kilda 22 4

we have to get over the Lions, Suns, Saints, Dogs & Ourselves... that's a giant hurdle to stumble over. if we are to get 6 wins+.

I would like to think that we stand a better chance of getting wins over both Carlton and the Pies than (for example) the Lions and the Suns. Also most Demon supporters would derive more pleasure achieving wins over those smug xxxxxs!

Having said that however I am quietly confident about tomorrow (as I have been about Round 1 for the last decade)!

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
