Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

I actually think he runs 2 ways well when down back.

Just gets lost and has no idea how to compete as a forward even if it's his most dangerous position.

Going to be interesting to see what other coaches can do with him because for the last decade plenty of players have left Melbourne and some have had success, but I can't think of many who's flaws improved. Even Frawley in the grand final did exactly what he has always done - win one on ones, use his athleticism to get the ball, lob wedge it 45m down the line.

If/when Howe goes I could couldn't care less what another team makes of him. Nor really of any player that leaves etc.

If they cant be of use to us..i have no interest.

This time of year does generate some fascinating 'alternative' valuations of players...by all teams.

Bit like trash and treasure week :)

Deeluded. Youve nearly arrived at mp point.

What one has in them as opposed to what one does.

Howe is not competitive. Hes lazy.likes doing what he likes but cant run two ways and is woeful at decisions.

Takes a nice mark

yes i see, but I'm talking about abilities, as against attitudes & cultures. Howe is a virtual mirror image of the club he came into.

..... so he has untapped real potential, & as a mature now, he has the skills after 100 of AFL games to further develop & unleash potential , In the right environment. He is a coach-able type, but like most people, they cannot change their adopted behaviors, within the same place, with the same faces, doing the same things.

He is a type I would go after if he was from another club & having these issues. he has the physical requirements.

a big change of environment, & moving into a strong mature cultured environment really helps players to change their spots, IF they are coach-able.

Untapped ?

Think we have some very coaches and developers now.

If THEY really thought he could be made into a better-HOWE don't you reckon we too would be valuing him upon that potential and re-signing him ?

We aren't. ....what does that say !!

If the floated Prestia deal is not on, I'd certainly entertain a Howe-for-Anderson deal.

I'd like the Hawks to add a bit to that though.

If we could do that deal and possibly upgrade our 3rd to their 2nd, I'd be pretty happy with that.

I'd take their (GCS)compensation pick for Howey... end of 1st Rnd, otherwise I'd shop around to GWS & the others... don't discount the Lions, who need to attract their patrons back to the games. Howe could have been a smaller version of the Orange Roughy under different circumstances.

surely we could find another like for like trade for an Anderson type.

There may well be something to that. And he would have company on that list.

Im happy for others to value him higher, to make of him as a better player than that which i estimate.

I think hes gone as high as he can with us and its only that value which interests me...i.e. what Howe can be for us.

In todays footy you have to be pretty versatile as each game, each opposition requires a different tinkering of players and gameplan.

Seems that variation of roles is one of Jeremy' peeves.

No problem. .....next !!!

once attitudes have been adopted by people, from their peers, its a subconscious commitment & surrender IMO, to those ways. I think our whole Australian belief systems are learn't this way.

And its incredibly difficult to change the things we've accepted & valued, whether good or not so.

same I imagine, with people hooked on drugs, change is hard too make from the learned default position, & to stick with, unless getting away from the surroundings which have taught, or remind/support the old wayz.

Indeed. This season Howe was expected to play a disciplined team role, work hard and make a real difference to games instead of adding a bit of colour.

In direct contrast to those saying Howe has been 'limited' by Melbourne's complacent culture, I'd argue that he is leaving precisely because that culture is changing and he isn't liking it.

I'd be amused if he ended up at Hawthorn. Would be a Colin Sylvia repeat. Where does he fit into their roles of;

Ball winner: nope

Ball user: nope

Marking target: sporadically and spectacularly, but nope

Goalkicker: nope

Intercepting defender: kinda, sorta, but nope

Shut-down defender: nope

When you consider that the entire Hawthorn football club best 22 can show at least two of those characteristics to an exceptional standard, where is Howe supposed to fit in?

On the AFL site, it says North are now leading the race for Howe.

If that is true, it may bode badly for getting Suns players.

PS. Sun today is saying Suns still very much to the fore.

Can't see Howe getting much game time up forward at North next year, if that's his preferred position. Obviously a longer term replacement for Waite/Petrie.

Spoke to a someone last night with very close ties to North's inner sanctum, and he mentioned that they are after a key back. Maybe that's where they have Howe earmarked to play, which does against his manager's comments.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
