Best 22 based on Pre Season form

Barney Rubble

Recommended Posts

Based on pre season so far.

You cannot pick Garland, Riley, Watts & Vince. They didn't have any contact work.

Howe seems Ok he put in a great pre Xmas. If he gets over his hammy soon he is still in consideration.

Did you not put Vandenberg in your 22?

Our starting 22 based on preseason form would see Vince and Watts not picked. If they are fit and ready to go for round 1, then they are automatically selected. Makes this exercise a little more difficult.

That said, I'll presume they will be right to go, so my 22 would be;

B - Jetta-Frost-Dunn

HB - Grimes-McDonald-Garland

C - McKenzie-N Jones-Lamumba

HF - Watts-Pedersen-Vince

F - Garlett-Hogan-Kent

R - Jamar-Tyson-Viney

Inter - M Jones-Howe-Newton

Sub - Salem

Emg - Michie-Gawn-Petracca

Notes;

McKenzie goes to Ablett

When Jamar rests, Pedersen goes to ruck, Jamar to full forward, Hogan to CHF

If Watts, Vince and/or Howe don't play;

Gawn comes in for Watts

Michie in for Vince

Petracca for Howe, but starts as sub and Salem is elevated to the bench

Happy for JKH and Toumpas to get some form/confidence playing in the VFL.

what bout Cross?

I think they should pick the first NAB challenge game based on training form so Howe has already been ruled out and I wouldn't play Vince, Watts and Garland who have been in rehab for a while even if they were fit enough in time, I would hold them back for another week.

B: JETTA, FROST, DUNN

HB: GRIMES, T.MCDONALD, LUMUMBA

C: CROSS, N.JONES, NEWTON

HF: KENT, DAWES, BAIL

F: GAWN, HOGAN, GARLETT

FOLL: JAMAR, TYSON, VINEY

IC: PEDERSEN, M.JONES, SALEM, TOUMPAS, KENNEDY-HARRIS, MICHIE

SUB: BRAYSHAW, PETRACCA

If we are talking about the first NAB Cup game (& there are six interchange), then my team would differ as below

B. Jetta. Frost. Dunn

HB. Brayshaw T. Mac. Toumpas

C. HL. Viney. Watts

HF. Petracca. Dawes. Gawn

F. Garlett. Hogan. Kent

R. Jamar, Tyson, N.Jones

I. Newton, Vince, Howe, Salem, JKH

S. Mitchie

E. Pederson, Vandeberg, M. Jones

Unlucky and depending on injuries: Cross, Grimes, Garland, Fitzy

What about leaving Hogan out of the NAB cup and just debut him round 1?

Can anyone imagine how bad it would be for Hogan to go down in the NAB cup, seriously I wouldn't play him, the NAB cup is a joke.

Yes

I suspect he will replace Trenners.

If he does get upgraded he will get in.

And what if he goes down in round 1 or at training... perhaps we shouldn't play him then either?

Yeh but if it's based on pre season, it would be hard to justify his selection due to missing pretty much the whole of December and resuming full training in January, was what I was suggesting

play hogan. If we are worried he might hurt himself then we will never play him. what about our other prized draftees? do we not play them in the nab either?

I think we shouldn't worry about that. Luck of the draw.
However if he's not right physically or mentally then of course don't play him.

Sorry but this is crazy logic. The need for him to get some competitive gametime under his belt is far greater than the need to wrap him in cotton wool. He could just as easily go down in the first quarter of Rd 1. Holding him back is literally pointless.

Pointless and counterproductive as you say 'P-man'.

Are you serious?? You would have Toumpas instead Of Cross across Half back???

Cross was a revelation last year. For him to miss is unthinkable!

I would like to see Toumpas playing a few Brilliant games for Casey across HBack before even considering him to play instead of Cross!

Salem across Half Forward line for me! Brayshaw to get a gig in the 22 possibly replacing Michie/ Gawn!

Gawn at Half Forward?? Nup!!

Roos will play whoever he believes to be the best for the job when the time comes. If he picks Toumpas over Cross, then so be it.

Where would you play Gawn if you are to have a second ruck? From all the training reports he has been taking some good marks and clunking a few goals. He would be hard to match up.

Similarly Toumpas is showing some form at training and, if he stays on the list, he is the future of the Club. There is no reason that he should prove himself at Casey if he can do it at traing and the NAB Cup.

Also no problems with Brayshaw starting but the suggestion of swapping him for Gawn is hardly like for like!

Cross proven, hard, creative ball winning capable, HBF

Toumpas needs more than "Training Form" to get a gig IMV

Gawn maybe but rotating on and of the ground not on a HFF

And another HOWE?? HFF??

stunned people think watts wont make the team....... he was top 10 in our B&F clearly the coaches rate him.

Going to be competitive for spots thats for sure. Garland watts and grimes will all be in,

From that team id say Pedo, Newton and Toump out for them.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
