The Ainslie club website shows: Aaron VANDENBERG 03/03/92 188 90 so he may turn 24 in March. "Reads play well, attacking playing who isnt afraid to have a go and shrug a tackle, South Coast product"

So, I choose Vandenberg. IMO, we can do with a strong, tallish midfielder while Pretrecca, Brayshaw, Stretch and Neal Bullen learn the ropes at Casey. He is our tallest mid-fielder. Also, looks a handy type to 'protect' those kids once they come into the side ala the way Geelong nurtured/protected Selwood in his early years.

Given that nobody other than a small few had heard of Aaron Vandenberg an hour ago, I daresay you're going a tad early. I'd like to see him play, or at least train, first. And by the sounds of it, he's recovering from shoulder surgery anyway.

My money is on no rookie promotion for the first few rounds at least.

I like the look of Harmes, but think he needs a bit more time in the VFL before playing in the seniors. Same goes for King. No idea about the other two...

Agreed. But there will probably be an upgrade in the early part of the season as no benefit in not doing so. AV could play a role in the team sometime in 2015 so IMO, he seems the most likely to get the nod.

There's no benefit in doing so either. Promote the player once he has put his hand up at Casey.

I wouldn't promote unless it leads immediately to a game in the 1sts - otherwise why bother ?

Vandenberg had a shoulder reco that might set him back.

Harmes got glandular, but looks pretty fit otherwise.

King is still battling away in the running. He's a slow build.

White I know nothing about how ready to play he is.

The correct answer is we have 40 on the senior list. 39 with Trengove injured. So there's still plenty to cover 22 on game day.

That said I can see Vandenberg and Harmes debuting at some stage during the year and I'm pretty happy we've got a half back flanker developing, but don't know anything about how close White is until we see some senior results.

If there is an early season promotion - I think it will be Vandenberg.

He is one of the best players in a (much derided) state league coming off an incredible season - if he stays injury free and hits the VFL well, he would be the only one of the 4 I can see being asked to step up and play.

Harmes has the form, the back end of 2014 he was consistently in Casey's best. If he train well and plays well in the NAB Cup he should be first.

Doesn't say when he had surgery but does say that "they weren't deterred by a shoulder injury that will see him begin the pre-season in rehabilitation, with expectations high he will be ready to go by March...

...His numbers stack up well when compared to Richmond revelation Anthony Miles who played in the NEAFL when at the Giants...Always talented, Vandenberg had knuckled down in recent seasons and proved himself capable of playing at a higher level than NEAFL.''

Wouldn't be surprised to see him play a practice game, a couple at Casey then promoted to Primary List for JacK T. Perhaps quite early in the season.

Agreed. My posts above referring to 'early in the season' or 'the season' mean the real playing season, not the preseason or practice match season. To me Vandenberg seemed the most likely and most valuable, if JT goes onto the LTI...if it happens - April at the very earliest.

May have seemed an early call when he was drafted but after tonight it is a no-brainer to promote V'Berg to seniors ASAP!!

Would expect him to play rnd 1 (deservedly so) and if he stays injury free, play every game this season! Not only can he play and kick goals he brings the right aggressive and attacking attitude - something our more seasoned players are still lacking. Puts a number of our 'senior' players to shame.

Vandenberg was good against Freo as well.

He is versatile, clean, and he lowers his eyes - which is a rare thing at this football club.

I love that he pushes forward and kicks goals, he looks very capable and already on the level.

Even if he was a top 5 draft pick I would be excited by him, but as a rookie selection it was an absolute masterstroke.
