Training - Wednesday 26th November, 2014

Usual drills

Injury report from Dave Misson, as they were missing, Watts a groin issue and Kent a quad issue

Spoke to the following

Spencer, ankle is fine, has had a bit of back soreness so they are holding him back a bit

Max Gawn should be back in full training in a week or so,

Harmes has had Glandular Fever, knocked him around a bit, lost 3kg,intends to work over the Xmas break to catch up,

Terlich another week or so,

Vince New Year before he can test out the shoulder,

Michie who has looked a bit down, had the dreaded gastro, really "drained" him

JKH will be wearing a support on his knee as a precaution, getting better each session

Tommy Mc has a hamstring tendon issue, nothing serious but they are monitoring it

Jack Fitzpatrick is glad to be getting through his first pre season, diabetes now just part of daily routine

Christiian Salem absolutely shattered that Man City scored two late goals to win in the Champions League, he is on a bit of a modified program

HL is just easing his way back into it, just a bit of tightness

My November flyer - Jimmy Toumpas

Roos was not there so assume already on the Gold Coast or doing some last minute decision making, none of the recruiting department were there,, and you usually get one or two watching but

Tommy Mc doesn't think his brother will still be there at 40, disappointed but happy for him, most players seem to think St Kilda will go with McCartin

JKH told me that Nev Jetta is like an uncle and 'keeps him in line'

Jeff Garlett is very approachable and very humble, complimented him on a nice set shot from the boundary he did and he shrugged it off, Nev of course couldn't resist and started saying that Garlett is going to win us a premiership

The pics I took will be on my Twitter Demonpk, sometime this afternoon

I would like Jimmy Toumpas to be a March to September flyer - go the toump !!

Seriously he looks really good, his running is exceptional and he shines during the kicking drills, hopefully he can get through to March and start to show what a good players he is, they have told him to stop being so hard on himself and just enjoy playing footy....the Roos mantra

Any word out of dee camp that a possible chance of a Petracca Brayshaw combo tomorrow night Saty?

As I said most of they players I asked think the Saints will go with McCartin, nobody there from recruiting to ask unfortunately, most agree it doesn't really matter anyway as the top 3 are all good so it is a win/win no matter which way it falls

Bitter experience disagrees with that...

Hate to be negative, but we've been training for all of 2 weeks and Watts, Kent, JKH, McDonald and Spencer have all picked up issues and 2 guys have had illnesses. That's going great isn't it! Probably just the modern reality of AFL that guys will pick up things and that we are being ultra cautious, but it doesn't make life easy to get a full team continuously training.

It's why I like the idea of the Casey guys training on until the draftees come in. With up to a dozen on different programs at any one time it helps to have a few more fit guys doing all the sessions as long as they are up to the standard which they seem to have been from what I've seen of them. Good luck to all of them in the draft as well, even though I think they are best as rookie candidates.

Ok I'll rephrase it, all 3 are good junior footballers anyway, move on it is a new season, from what I can see at training, if they all get through, for young players who we haven't seen much we will have Hogan, Salem, JKH, Toumpas, Hunt, Stretch, Frost, Kent, Harmes, King and we can add two more, what's not to like

It is just that it is more open now, I can ask the players or Dave Misson and get an answer, in the past it would be a mystery injury or illness, Misson said nothing is serious and it is November, only one who is 'serious' is Trengove, Spencer is a big, big unit so if he reported a bit of back soreness the alarm bells would ring, he was fine today. Harmes was absolutely gutted he got glandular put him back a few weeks, really impressed me that he said twice that he was going to work over the Xmas break to catch up

How did you get into it? I can ask him next time, the only one that glares at me is the big angry polar bear Jesse Hogan, think the pic I put on twitter burnt my bridges there?

Small joke Saty a few weeks back I made a comment I was not all that keen on him and you replied he was not keen on me either.

Toumpas has all the ability and tools to be a good AFL player, he just needs to get his head believing that.

Would appear he has not had his body in the right condition either.

AFL is tough gig if you have only 95% fitness wise you will struggle as a young player.

I don't think he would have made it anyway but Tapscott never had an injury free pre season.

He was pretty fit last year. Was right up there in the running chasing Jones and Cross. And Todd Viney said the other week he was in our top few for GPS results. I think what we saw early last year is a guy who was running really hard from a wing or half forward to get open and running really hard to push back defensively, but sometimes when the contest came his way he was out on his feet. It was kind of a shame he didn't last in the senior side until we found the patch of form we had mid year as I think he would've played pretty well.

Hopefully a bit of extra size, the boxing training to sharpen up his toughness and reflexes as well as confidence sees him have an easier time of winning contests, because I have a lot of confidence in his work rate once he does sort out how to mix it at AFL level. Same with his skills, once the game slows down and he finds confidence he'll start picking out targets.

Any word on Tappscott. Is his back injury ending his shot at rookie spot?

I'm sure Saty will get back to you and I don't want to take him out of context, but I think Misson said to Saty that he's injured and therefore it isn't worth him training on. It would then come down to the recruiters and coaches to make a call but I'd say given his injury history and output to date if he can't do a full preseason he wouldn't be worth drafting again.

I think you might see a few backflips worthy of an Olympic gold medal performance in that case Mono.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
