I hope we do play hard ball. If Geelong are oh so confident with the report their medical team have done on him, as thingy said on radio, then he isn't worth trading for a dud they're trying to off load.

Clearly they think they can get away with daylight robbery here but we're not that stupid.

If Roos can get us the pick for Lamumba off them as well as a player, it'll be a good result.

Rodan and Byrnes Mach 2.

Ok maybe a little better however not a game breaker by any standard.

We've picked up a few mature bodies over last year and shortly this year, not interested in Varcoe.

Prefer Murdoch or Stokes however can't see them giving Stokes up.

Do we put an end to the thread or take that comment from Mahoney as meaning that while he's not in discussions today, it might be a different story tomorrow or the day after.

Put and end to the thread, and just discuss it in the Mitch Clark status thread if it comes up again

This would not be a good result for MFC.

Varcoe is at a point in his life where his football will not get any better, and it'll be bloody surprising if he can maintain his current form.

Geelong will offer much better.

Given your sources down at Geelong, mate, any chance you'd know any others they might put on the table?

Geelong v Hawks qualifying finsl 19 disposals 5 marks 4 tackles(4th most tackles for Geelong)

Geelong v North semi finals 14 disposals 2 marks 5 tackles (equal 4th most tackles for Geelong)

Reasonable effort in a losing side.

Tend to agree Machsy.

To me Varcoe is definitely the kind of player who does well in a good side, where other blokes are doing the dirty work, but will struggle in a trash side like our own. I'd rather go someone who is seemingly of less 'value' but contributes every week and competes consistently.

Hopefully they'll offer something better.

I thought the idea was to have your players with leg speed on the outside?

A lot more level headed comments in here re Varcoe than in the Mitch Clark thread where the consensus seemed to be "PREMIERSHIP PLAYER OMG!"

I'm not overly excited by Varcoe, but I also don't think we're going to get much better for Clark. I hope we do. If Geelong are 100% happy with his physical and mental outlook then we need to ride that home. This one will make them earn their pay cheques.

Agreed, very talented footballer on his day and now appears to be over his injury issues. Has speed and decent disposal, both of which we are seriously lacking.

Guessing none of you watched the 2011 grand final when he kicked the first goal of the game in the opening 10 seconds and 3 for the game.

Did you see his effort for goal in last years Prelim?

He is damaged goods. Proceed with caution.

edit: Please don't post allegations which are potentially defamatory

And Mitch Clark isn't?

Why trade out one damaged and trade in another damaged.

I don't think we will go down this path.

It's not like we can ask for to much when trading Mitch. He is damaged physically and mentally. Anyone who can get one possession for us is more valuable then Mitch.

Are you the MFC list manager?

Just because you have written 6000 comments on this site doesn't mean you know everything.

Mitch Clark was damaged good when we got him.

...and how much value did we get from him?

Yeah he missed a crucial late goal. People have been doing that in this league since 1897.

People are making Varcoe out to be a poor mans Dan Nicholson when in reality he's probably be in our top 10 players at the MFC.

He'd improve us.

Posted

Wasn't there an issue with him struggling to put his hands above his head?

That's ok, Danger will be putting it onto his chest.

But seriously, posters on here referring to Varcoe as a "midfielder", try actually watching some football before shooting off at the gob...

Personally, we should raise the bar. A fit n firing Clark vs A fit n firing Varcoe.... enough said.

He kicked 19 goal and cost us over a million dollars.

Grate value there mate.

So you think we should trade him for Varcoe? I'm not getting your point here.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
