Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Guessing none of you watched the 2011 grand final when he kicked the first goal of the game in the opening 10 seconds and 3 for the game.

Oh well that's a good enough reason to take him, did you watch the 2006 Grand Final when delisted Stevie Armstrong who was a rookie upgrade on the Meth Coast list kicked an opportunist goal from the forward pocket in the late stages. I think we would look at more than 1 GF performance

Hasn't been anywhere near his 2010/2011 form in the follwing seasons.

Looks like he is running on 2 cylinders since. Obviously he has had injury woes which have probably held him back but i can't see any upside here. Just another Shannon Byrnes situation where we get very little value and a retirement following shortly after.

MFC has been trading this sort of damaged goods into the team for decades now with no upside.

Apparantly still hasn't learnt and is happy to be bitten over and over again if this trade goes through. Some here will say better than nothing but IMO i would rather offer the position on list to someone who offers us decent upside and years of service rather than a flashy premiership player on his way out.

If he can't perform any longer with one of the best teams/support systems going around in the AFL i doubt he will show any further improvement with one of the lower rung teams regardless of whether it was us, the Saints, Blues etc.

I think Varcoe would be a horrible addition!

Silky outside midfielder at the best of times, soft injury-prone downhill skier at the worst of times.

Can utilise his strengths at Geelong with strong inside midfielders feeding the ball out to him. Will not have the same luxury at the dees and will be found out.

Struggles to find his own ball and compete in one-on-ones.

Not the sort of player we need right now.

Injuries aren't his problem, he had 1 and a bit years when he was injury prone the rest have been relatively injury free.

The problem with him is he can't find the ball, even at his best he averaged just 16 disposals and his last 2 years he's averaged just 12 and 14 disposals.

Unfortunately this will probably be the best deal we can get so Clark has screwed us again. Clark for Lumumba was definitely a better deal.

We move Grimes into the middle and Varcoe goes to half back and becomes the next Gary Rohan.

Not to mention any players being brought from Geelong to our club would probably be traded against their will. Just get the picks.

Didn't Geelong want Blease? Give them Clark and Blease for their first pick.

This is what I'd be pushing for...

This is what I'd be pushing for...

It's what I'd push for too if I wanted us to become Essendon or Collingwood, i.e. clubs other clubs won't deal with unless they absolutely must.

Don't be dicks about it, MFC. Come up with a fair and reasonable trade and get it done very early, please.

I would take Jackson Thurlow in a straight trade. Huge upside and Cats may see him as expendable.

Likely be Clark for Taylor Hunt - ooooooooooh no.

Thurlow was drafted as the long term replacement for Corey Enright. I can't see him being put up for trade. That shouldn't stop Melbourne from inquiring about him, but chances of success would have to be slim.

Geelong never seem to do badly out of trade time. They will get what they want and give up something they don't need, or someone who has flaws in their game. If be surprised if we got more than pick 33 or a single average player.

That is my fear.

Varcoe has issues, is damaged goods, is injury prone (not in 2014) and is a shadow of the player he once was. He is 27 next season we MAY get 1 or 2 ok seasons out of him but we will never see him as the player he was in 2011. Varcoe is way unders for our best player, a KP Forward no less who from all reports has performed excellently in all physical testing at the MFC, Geelong and Collingwood. I am not saying Clark is without risk but he comes with massive upside. Varco may be considered with other players and picks but knowing what I know I would be disgusted if this is the trade. We need to trade Clark for a younger talent that we can at least get 5 years out of. He is actually worth a player who Geelong don't want to lose rather than a damaged has been who Geelong have been trying to off load for years.

I am sure Roos will not get sucked into Varcoe (unless only part of the deal). We can do much better there is some exciting young talent on the Geelong list.

After listening to Mahoney this morning it looks like we have no interest in Varcoe

Interesting to listen to :) Liked how they always subtly pump up Clarks tyres etc. Clever work

Thank heavens!

I found the rumours puzzling, because we were in a position to know about his issues, yet seemed to be ignoring them.

Unfortunately for Varcoe, I think his career has stalled and is probably beyond recovery, set for a gradual decline.

Thanks GNF you found the words I was looking for, I don't know anything except that Geelong supporters would be over the moon to get Clark and lose Varcoe, who they definitely see as expendable and well past his prime.

I would hope that we would be asking for and expecting better.

Why?

I'd rather let him walk for nothing then end up with an over the hill list clogger thanks.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
