Goodwin's Law?

Simon Goodwin steps up talks with Demons

Seems like official interviews are imminent.

How about a Goodwin and Bomber double? Last night on 360 Bomber didn't seem too eager to be a senior coach again, reckon he's looking for a Director of Footy role such as what Neil Craig has at Essendon. This is something we could offer him. Bring Goodwin on as Senior Assistant and Bomber on as Director of Football, helps with Goodwin's seamless education as it continues an existing relationship. Then when Roos steps in to the shadows Goodwin steps up, but still with Bomber offering ongoing sage advice when needed. Continuity, seamless transition, things that Roos has publicly stated he is seeking.

Makes sense to me...

Big question though - are we certain that Goodwin wasn't involved with the pharmacology experiment? Seriously I would be wary, any sanctions aside, of anyone compliant in such scurrilous disregard for player welfare, and the good of the game.

To be honest, I wouldn't know a good assistant coach if he slapped me across the face with a wet fish. I just want someone who is on the same page with Paul Roos as far as football philosophy goes. Whoever we end up with may not have an exciting name, but I'll trust Roos won't bring in a nong to replace himself.

Everyone at the club was involved. But you'd figure he was a junior assistant coach so not involved in the decision making. In some ways he's probably a victim like the players more than a bad guy. Any sanction might be light if he was willing to take one along the lines of the rugby league guys. It's a concern. But if he's the best coach in waiting you'd take the chance.

To be honest, there wouldn't be many if any on Demonland with any idea.

Players we can judge what we see. Coaches we can judge results.

The work of an assistant coach is fairly intangible to supporters.

Hallelujah

I am bemused when supporters trash assistant coaches. Supporters simply don't know - head coaches are the only ones who can make that call. Rawlings for exampled is being hailed as a great assistant this year - but how about last year ? I basically believe if the head coach keeps renewing the contract of an assistant then he must be ok - if he gives him the flick, then maybe not so. Some assistants have great reputations - they come with years of experience and ultra impressive resumes - George Stone - but even that is heresay from others - players and coaches.

The only thing I know about Godwin apart from him being a very good player is that he has done the right things to become a senior coach. He could have stayed on at Adelaide but for the betterment of his career he left to get a broader understanding of the football world.

Think Gia at the dogs who is staying, Bickley who stayed on in Adelaide. I would prefer someone who is driven enough to go out, put yourself on the line and gather the knowledge and experience necessary. No years in the media building a profile whilst losing touch with the game.

Can he coach? I've got no idea but at least he has made the right moves to get the best from himself.

I can confirm Goodwin will be senior assistant next year.

How can you confirm that when permission has only just been granted for us to formally interview Goodwin?

I know people - it's done.

Happy to never post again if I am wrong.

i know people at the club but it's hard to say it's done when he is just the first name to come up that Melbourne are meeting . I can tell you he is not the only coach we will talk too so your people are just wrong.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
