Melbourne asks for draft assistance

For Gil insert polo playing prior to ponce

I actually hate that he has good hair and teeth.

Sickening.

Mark Evans may have other things on his mind depending how the druggies go in court tomorrow. Hope they get drilled big time, and show cause notices stand. Become infraction notices. That'll STTFU. And make me smile.

Then I'd say in the commission hearing "and how did your "special assistance" work out for you, Evo?...that's right, infraction notices."

19.2 Special Assistance
(a) At the conclusion of the Home and Away Matches in each Football Year, the Commission may determine in its absolute discretion that a Club is entitled to one or more priority selections at the next occurring National Draft Selection Meeting. Such right to one or more priority draft selections shall be exercisable during the Draft as directed by the Commission
(b) The Commission will exercise its discretion under this Rule 19 only in exceptional circumstances taking into account a recommendation from the AFL Executive, the recent on field performance of a Club and any other matter the Commission in its absolute discretion regards relevant.
Oh... I see what he's done there we're asking for a priority SELECTION.

Now that's interesting. Evans would have you believe it's on his recommendation but that's not the case at all. The commission can act on their own accord.

Mark Evans is a overly tanned ponce who can go [censored] himself

I agree.

It was always documented as special assistance, not a 'priority selection'. As has been said previously, this is most likely in the form of extra $$$ to fund the FD. I wouldn't be getting your hopes up about a pick.

Pretty sure we're getting that already as other clubs are also as part of the AFL's annual disequalisation funding.

The application we've made is for draft assistance. Funding is a separate issue and all clubs receive a hand out from the AFL coffers every year. Equalisation of funding is a different issue to draft assistance which can apply in special or exceptional circumstances.

Because any draft assistance will involve the order of the draft, it's only going to be natural that other clubs aren't going to be happy if they're moved a notch or two below their pecking order. The situation will be emphasised even further if, as expected, Frawley leaves and we also get band 1 compensation for him. Those other clubs and supporters who want to protect their draft positions will cry foul and claim we're getting too much by conflating the issues.

This shouldn't be considered in terms of hand outs because it's a one off and, if accepted by the AFL (as I believe it should) then it's all within the rules as above. After that it's up to us to use all of our draft picks wisely and for Roos and co to continue to develop the culture of the club and the new and old players in our system.

Boo Hoo, let him [censored] and moan all he wants.

Probably venting his frustration that he had no idea regarding the Goodwin appointment and no clue about footy in general.

His reasoning is soooo irrelevant

The commission meets today. The club presidents have their AGM today as well.

I'm assuming they will reach a decision and announce it this afternoon, as all the attention will be on the Brownlow and they can sweep us under the rug?

I'm so sick of the politics, vested interests, biased reporting, favouritism, cronyism and spin that engulfs the game.

FFS can't we just have a fun sport to follow?

Naturally, they will sweep us under the rug (or possibly throw us under another bus) using the same ridiculous logic they apply in all other cases when they do what they want without consideration of fairness. I expect them to come up with a response as ridiculous as Mark Evans' last decision about who would wear the alternative strip in the Port Adelaide v Richmond final when they gave preference to 8th place over 5th because of some nonsense about Richmond's away strip. They make things up on the run and they aren't very good at it.

Due to the unmitigated disaster called Essendon and the likelihood of their demise, I think this will distract the other clubs from picking on us.

The presidents will be so involved in putting the boot into Little that draft assistance to us will not seem so bad. I think we will get it, maybe a first rounder. Yes 2 3 & 4

Highly unlikely we will land a first round pick, although if we did, I would imagine we would be required to trade it. I suspect it's more likely that we get a pick between the first and second rounds.

I think it will be interesting to see if Clark comes into factorings as well.... or whether the Commission believes that trading him is compensation enough.

We won't be getting anything. We'll get compo for Frawley and they'll argue we can get something in a trade for Clark, plus Hogan still to come in. I will be shocked if they grant us any PP (before during or after first round).

The birdman rally at Moomba is fun.

There's every chance that the AFL might be asked to give Essendon special assistance in the near future to help them get a team on the ground.

It can hardly give the Bombers help in circumstances where the AFL has already sanctioned that club in view of the attitude it took against Melbourne last year when the clubs objected because of our involvement in the tanking dispute. It can only give Essendon help if it provides assistance in some form to us.

Hogan to come in ? How did that reasoning work out last year ?

Perversely, that makes me want to have our application rejected, if it could be used as a precedent for that. Essendon asking for special assistance to recover from the drugs episode sounds very much like asking for a reward for robbing a bank ...

Incorrect, they can do what they want.

What he said. Wouldn't even surprise me if he authorized a PP for the Saints next year for two wooden spoons in a row. They do whatever suits their prerogative.

Drugs I mean Dons will win the spoon next year

He actually called the goodwin appointment 4 weeks out from it.

Playing essendon should become a rotating bye.....i know the numbers don't work out.

Youre attempting to package LOGIC FAIRNESS and AFL all in one argument

The AFL will work always to its own agenda. Isnt that right Vlad ??

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
