Bear in mind folks that the Saints have two winnable games to come against inconsistent opponents while we have two games that are virtually unwinnable. We could very well end up with pick 1 again.

Edit: It's also just been confirmed that Patton has done his ACL.

Might pull an Elway / Baltamore scenario. Would not blame the kid.

I though today that at what point will some kid who may be a dual sport star find out he is coming to the Demons and choose the other sport. At this stage, I wouldn't allow my son to play for them and ruin his career. I would look at the other options he had, even if it meant playing VFL or SANFL for a couple of years. Sounds harsh, but we are a rabble.

glad to see there are 2 or 3 people on this site who have the basic numeracy skills required to look at the ladder and realise we will in fact finish 17th, not 18th

two massive losses by us and a couple of narrow losses by the saints and we could get the spoon, I wouldn't put it past them.

if that happens, we will be accused of tanking again... Lol...

hmmm what they have the Tigers who have won 7 in a row and are pushing for finals and the crows at home also fighting to keep 8th spot. They will not win either. For us to drop below them on percentage we would have to lose both games by 170 points more than they do.. so yeah..hmmm

The presumption is the Saints would go for a KPP so either McCartin or Wright leaving Petracca at pick 2.

That is not the presumption of the posters I am adressing who, as you can see, are suggesting we will finish last when that is an extremely unlikely outcome

That's not basic numeracy, that's guesswork. We can still finish stone cold last on points.

In a season noted for upsets, you sir are sticking your dick out in the hope it doesn't get cut off.

Well it really depends how badly we get belted in the next 2 weeks, compared to how bad saints get belted.

whats the difference, 7.5% or something, cbf looking, but thats not impossible in 2 rounds, if they have marginal losses and we get pummelled. we dropped 3 percent today didn't we? Also, saints may not take patrecca, as they want a tall forward ala mccartin or wright.

I kinda hope we don't take brayshaw, i feel like we have enough players of his ilk, the crash and bash in and under mid.

We should put a trade to sydney to get heeney if we can't take patrecca.

we should end up with picks 1 or 2, then frawley comp should be pick either pick 2, 3 or 19? (end of first round if the deal he gets isn't top rank?) We should also def apply for a priority pick for being rubbish, and if we get one its more likely to be an end of first round pick, so like pick 20.

Its unlikely we will have a lower % than saints, so if we are lucky we might have 2, 3 (frawley, could also be pick 19) and maybe 20 (PP).

Offer pick 2 for sydneys heeney and mitchell?

We beat both of those sides. I admit that it's highly unlikely that the Saints will win one, and I also did the math on whether we could slip below them on percentage, but the Saints have pulled off some good wins this year and both Richmond and Adelaide have had some disastrous losses. Furthermore Richmond have a history of choking and missing out on the finals by a narrow margin. As things stand we have to rely on the Saints not trading pick 1 and not taking Petracca themselves. While I have been an advocate of the theory that they will use pick one on a key forward to replace Saint Nick, it has rightly been pointed out that their midfield is also badly in need of more quality and they could very well decide to take the best mid in the draft and snap up whichever tall drops to their second pick given that there are quite a few good quality key forward prospects to pick from. As such, the Saints winning another game is our best and possibly only option to get him to our club. Why should I not point this out and back them to do so?

Do the math. If we assume a 50 point loss to the Roos and a 100 point loss to the Eagles, say 100-50 and 150-50, then we will wind up on around 68%. The Saints are already well below that mark. There is no way close losses will drag them up enough to catch us. Hence my hope that they will have a freak game and win one.

The ironic thing is, Petracca is not the great white hope I think many on here are thinking he is. The vision I saw was a man-child clearance specialist that had pretty ordinary disposal but could take a decent mark. Reminded me of Colin Sylvia and we all know how that turned out. I have little faith that whoever we draft will buck the odds and become an A grader. When was the last one? Probably Jeff Farmer?

I'd rather we used it to chase a 21-24 year old that can play with the big boys. The draft is a lottery. For every Buddy there is a Tambling, for every Judd a Morton. We can't afford to get it wrong even if we miss a generation star.

Posted

I say let's bring back the (Grand Final) tradition of swapping jumpers after the match. The best thing for us yesterday would have bee for the teams to have swapped their jumpers and then run back through the opposing race, In that way we would have had a reasonable team front up next week.

Posted

The question is: is this bloke as highly rated as Morton and Toumpas were? if yes, we need to grab him!

Posted

wouldn't shock me if draftees start telling the MFC not to draft them, similar what Chad Wingard did to GWS

Posted

We trade our pick 2 away for more hard working midfielders with mediocre disposal or ineffective running patterns.

Damn Kelly looked good yesterday

So Petracca has Sylvia ability with a great attitude & work rate?

I'll take that...

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
