What I get out of it is that there are a few key psychological factors, and tactical habits, thhat could make a dramatic difference to our results.

I guess this article reminds me why I'm a quiet kind of disappointed about this season, but not in the gut-achingly bad 'where do we go from here' way that has been the story of the last few years,

Really liked the reference to the Houston Rockets who I used to followed fervently as a kid. I just watched the video of their second championship for the first time and their ability to used failure to galvanise them to victory is a great lesson for the Dees. Also helped they had one of the best players (Hakeem Olajuwon) in the league at time! Love the way Olajuwon used the fact David Robinson won the 94-95 MVP as motivation to smash him in the playoffs too. Was a shame they couldn't keep it together for the following year. Would have been great to see Olajuwon, Drexler and Barkley face off agianst Jordan and the Bulls in the playoffs.

On the plus side, the statistics which accompany the article show how much of an aberration the results are. The next worst in percentage terms is Carlton at 63.6% (compared with our 44.4%) and every other team is 75% or better. When a figure is such an outlier it suggests to me that the Melbourne results are not "natural" and could be rectified quite simply.

Stats that we're [censored]?

yes. Most of our list get wobbly knees with 10 minutes to go. Even after a year with Roos & Co.

Damaged Goods that must be recycled at whatever price.

Brett Anderson is a passionate Melbourne supporter so he knows what he is talking about.

"so he knows what he is talking about "!!!! Does it necessarily follow therefore that every passionate supporter knows what he is talking about? Read these fora and you would tend to believe otherwise.

As opposed to the last 2 years before Roos where we looked ok in the last 10 minutes - usually kicking a couple of goals meaning we were only beaten by 15 goals instead of 17 goals.

Put discussion of ability and skills aside for the moment. I suggest there are essentially two distinct types of players ( some marginals between , but tin the main ) Those that when push comes to shove put all care aside and will step up for the fight. There are the others who just want it over as they ave internally capitulated , even if they still show outward signs of playing. Its just going through the motions til the relief of the siren releases them from that day's torment.

There is no doubt frustration especially amongst some of the players that not all share their boldness, the never give in , their dare-do-well.

I seriously reckon as a training exercise , stuff the altitude but go back to the military SAS style camp and see who comes out on which side.

Those that show poorly, get rid of. They will NEVER be there when you need them.

It seems that instead of players the Melbourne Football Club should be aiming to recruit Australia's top sports pyschologist who can turn around this problem (and get Mitch Clark back playing for us again)!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
