Jeff Farmer interview

What

Recommended Posts

Just finished watching the interview, and oh, the footage. Yze kicking to into a forward line with only 6 people in it (very refreshing to see that). And some of the players: Neitz, Ox, Lyon, White.

And Jeff Farmer... I was at the MCG for the final versus the Crows in 1998 - I couldn't talk properly for two days after yelling out "Farmer!" about 50 times. If only we could unearth 1 player with half his talent. He is up there with the very best small forwards ever, maybe just behind Bartlett, Matthews and Milne. I hope the father son rule applies if any of his kids show talent.

One day in the year 2000 I woke mid morning feeling too poorly to go watch the Dees play the Pies at the G. A few hours later I decided to drag myself to the G and arrived at half time just in time to see the Wiz kick 9 against the Pies in the second half.

I was at that game vs. the Crows. Due to the dismal fixturing, we played our best footy in the first two weeks of the finals and took on Norf after a wet weather game against the Áints. We were always going to struggle against a North outfit who had a week off (and in reality should have won it all but for dismal kicking for goal). 1998 is and was easily my favorite season as a supporter. I felt of any season, that one and 1990 were the years we were closest to the flag.
As for Wizard on that day, Mal Blight tried playing McLeod on the Wiz. Wiz tore him a new one and anyone else foolish enough to come near him that day.
It's nice to see that he considers the MFC 'home'. Too many people have tried to disassociate themselves from us over the years. Nice to see that Wiz is still one of us.

If Jeff kicked an early goal in a game he was so often "on"...

lol, you mean like that game against the pies where he kicked a huge bag but none in the first half?

All swans are birds, but not all birds are swans.

Agreed. Wiz still loves the MFC.

The memories have dimmed of his highlights, but watching that made me appreciate him even further. That mark running against the flight into the Coll player was amazing. Truly a favourite. Hope his boys are guns and develop his fondness for the club.

Yeah there wasn't much of a mention on if Jeff jnr was doing anything in footy, if he is that's a tough act to follow!

Wiz is unlike any player I've seen at the Dees, and he was truly loved by the fans. I actually really enjoyed hearing his comment that he felt like he wanted/needed to entertain the fans and that our reactions would build his confidence to try the impossible.

I was beyond gutted when he left, but I'm glad to hear he has the MFC in his heart.

If Jeff kicked an early goal in a game he was so often "on"...

At the start of the 1998 prelim he took an absolute blinder about 30 metres out directly in front. I said before he kicked it that this shot at goal was for the premiership. Alas.

What an absolute wizard he was though. One of my all-time favourites.

Great interview! He's so well spoken and level headed.
The Wiz was my favourite player as a kid and it's not hard to see why, he did everything a kid loves, like the big marks, the amazing goals and a bit of attitude as well.
I was shattered when he left Melbourne and it seemed like he wasn't the same player at Fremantle.

He achieved some great things at the Dees and we can only hope we have another small forward of his talent sometime soon.

Great interview but where was the highlight of the torp on the run at Waverley against the Hawks?! So many electrifying memories. Just glad that they didn't show the after the siren kick that he scored to win the game for Freo against us in his first game against the Dees, or the 7 he kicked against us at the G....god that was heartbreaking.

And I agree with Colin, 98 was our best shot at a flag, along with 90. Final 8 system killed us in 98. I'll never forget Malcolm Blight at the Crows Premiership dinner on Grand Final night being interviewed and saying "Yeah, we were pretty glad we didn't have to play Melbourne again".

My all time favorite player.. this game hasn't been mentioned at all but his 2000 preliminary final against North when he kicked 8 was one of the most explosive performance I have seen from an individual player.

He was so angry and fired up he was literally unstoppable!

Miss ya Wiz!

One of my all time faves who in the last half of 2000 was simply sensational although he provided great memories right throughout his time at MFC.

Well spoken during the interview and nice to hear Jeff heap praises on our cluib.

Jeff Junior doesn't play footy anymore. Hasn't for 4 years.

Its Koby the one to look out for!

Okay, I'll bite. Koby who? With Billy Stretch and Jake Lovett over the next couple of seasons having another 'gun' coming through would be...well...awesome

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
