Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

About a year and a half.

Prior to that he'd done some coaching in North America and had undertaken various self study etc into coaching and what makes teams/players tick etc

Fair enough. I had a feeling it was about that.

Maybe for that reason he doesn't see experience as a necessity?

It may be the case that the "successor" will be chosen for already having the very necessary attributes Roos think they might gain as a result of a longer apprenticeship?

In any case, I think, and I think Roos thinks, that if Roos is still there in a role such as "Coaching Director", then it's not such an issue, and the successor will be in a slightly more advanced role than "Lead Assistant."

And I fully believe that Roos intends to stay at the club long term in a less demanding capacity.

Mick ordered Ling and the camera crew to get out of his way with a lot of abusive language and Ling told him never to talk to him Lin that way.

Hmmm... Can't find it on YouTube.

But I can find a video from round 2 last year when Malthouse was being interviewed by Ling, and Mick was surprisingly overfriendly.

Ling acknowledged Malthouse acting as if trying to recruit him for a coaching position, something he'd be sure to try again at the end of this season, if Ling hasn't already made his mind up.

Maybe Mick has been spurned and is angry at Ling for more than just "getting in the way"..?

Source?

The rumour I have heard, is that it's Kirk, Fremantle have been informed that he's right in the mix and it's probably a good idea to plan accordingly

that's coming out of Albury where Kirk comes from.

The other part of the rumour, truth or not is that Roosy will sign a three year deal as director of coaching at the end of 2016, apparently he was hesitant to coach incase he got in and hated it but he's found some passion for the club and is emotionally invested in playing a role in getting this club back up to where he feels the oldest club should be.

again just rumours I have heard around but if they're true it's exciting

Mono brow, he has the skills. Who would be better?

What is there to say he "has the skills". As far as I know he has never coached

Nothing to the risk he'd be taking!

Got to admire a bloke starting out, pretty respected and likely to get a gig somewhere, who chooses to take on Melbourne. More faith than most of us have, I'd say - yet we pontificate our mingy little opinions about it... Oh that we should be so lucky as to get a Ling!

slippery little suckers, those Ling. hard to get hold of. bit like an Eel.

Like the way Ling stood up to Mad Mick Malthouse, probably the most unpleasant person in football. Shows he's no shrinking violet. Good on him.

micks way over his head in the blues job. IMO he'll get spat out inside 2 years from this season. that club is headed for divisision. too many crooks spoiling the broth.

the rest was irrelevant

This bit isnt...can he coach?

The answer presently must be NO

Where do you think we would be now if they asked the same question of Norm Smith in 1954

Sorry your right we wouldn't have the curse of Norm Smith hanging over us.

Not all great players make great coaches

Its as much about support team management and recruitment as it is three quarter speeches

Not much commends ling and I see little that bonds him to us but money

The difference between ling and most great players is he wasn't blessed with great skills from the start. He had to work very hard to improve himself and got the absolute most out of himself. I'd like to think as a coach he might be able to do the same with others.

Someone on SEN said this morning that he heard murmerings that Ling would be sig ed within a month. Not sure who it was though it wasn't a caller.

I listened to this. It was Andrew maher. He said it will be announced that ling will sign at melbourne within a month. Watson asked him if he knew this as a done deal. Maher said that he had heard some things. That was pretty much the conversation.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
