Post Match Discussion - Round 15

Every single player out there contributed to that pathetic effort. Dawes needs to mark a [censored] ball just once. Tyson needs to stop being clever and just dispose of the ball. Dunn needs to learn when to just take the bloody ball over the line instead of gifting the goals to the opposition. Watts just needs to kick those goals when it matters. Matt Jones and Bail are just dumb, dumb, dumb players. Even Nate Jones had a stinker and Bernie's horrible kick in the end cost us that one goal difference.

Every single player clunked that one and we lost it collectively. Not good enough, but if we'd won that it gives the team false hope. Didn't deserve it one iota.

Administrators gonna administrate...

Here's the thing. We lost by a goal but could have been blown away. The list will be culled but it was not an atrocious performance IMO. It was a frustratingly uneven performance.

First full game I have watched for a year after being overseas since last July. Incredibly frustrating, more than anything because I am sicking of watching us lose. Nothing much has changed but I guess at least we are competitive now and can fight out way back into games. The next step will be learning to win the close ones, and lets face it. The boys haven't had much practice in that regards over the last few years. Gotta keep reminding myself of where we have come from and there are definitely glimpses of talent and a solid game plan. I still bloody hate losing to the doggies(twice!) though!!

Nicholson Terlich Bail all need to be cast at Casey for the rest of the year.

Salem too.. shouldn't even be playing today. looks tired and flat. Don't understand how Jimmy Toumpas gets one go and does well and then gets dropped after one game. Yet this kid is getting games when he clearly needs a rest.

Players who better straighten their heads out: Garland, Jamar (not a tap ruckman's a***hole), Dawes (just cannot hold marks)....oh, bugger I can't be bothered listing the rest there're too many, oh Bail, sorry Rohan I like you but enough is enough already. Watts as well, the mind boggles about this guy (note to the boot studder, change his studs to screw-ins, the guy loses his feet when someone breathes on him). Some will probably howl me down on this one but Dom Tyson...he tries but like many on our list is always good for at least one or two momentum shifting howlers e.g. when we had the ball at half forward and he dummied one then got tackled holding the ball from behind.

The whole midfield unit today was just so ordinary, and I think a lot of that was Jamars poor tap work

Players that can hold their head semi high:

Jetta

Gawn

Howe

Grimes (but only just still had his usual nightmare moments)

Players that can just go jump: Frawley (if we seriously get a first round pick for this guy I'd be surprised, nay shocked)

not going to win many games playing like that

Not going to win ANY playing like that

bring back skilled players Toumpass and Blease. Georgiou back in for Garland.

outs..M. Jones and either Kent/Terlich

You want skilled players and then ask for one of our LEAST skilled players to be brought back into the side? Are you confused?

Shattered with the loss but, once again, a lapse in concentration killed us. Plus our clearance work when the game was on early was deplorable.

10 steps backwards.

Bulldogs [censored] reserves? Are you serious?

Dom Tyson, even in form let alone out of form, is the most tackled bloke in the world.

Garland is now a ineffectual footballer.

Give us a decent pick for brain fade Frawley.

BAIL. Hey satyriconhome - I've got a question you can ask at training, ask Bail who came up with the play where he has a mark 60m out from goal, and the selected delivery method is to run on to his left and snap it into the forward line. Would love to know the thinking behind this innovation.

Shut down Jones and Vince and we have sweet [censored] all.

Roos still has no idea how to use the sub.

Ranks along side Terlich's effort when he tried to short pass from the 50 mtr line, from a set shot, to a player under pressure. You could see his eyes, he wanted to do anything other that actually try to have a shot on goal.

There are too many players on our list that are not up to AFL standard and we need to have a real clean out at the end of the year.

You can't play a half and expect to win. Too many passengers - Salem, Kent, Nicho, Terlich. Thought Dom Barry showed a bit and should be given another go. Maxxy and Jamar worked well in tandem. Grimes played his best game in years and I think Frawley is better down back despite his odd brain fade.

Guys don't stress too much. Remember the AFL have an agenda and are managing most of these games very carefully along with the rigged fixture.

Anyone playing out of shityhad is always going to get a nice ride from the umps vs teams that aren't playing out of there (the start up clubs would be allowed some forgiveness no doubt).

We'll never beat many teams based at shityhad unless we get an absolute kick ass team on the field at some point that's at least 4 to 5 goals better than our opponent before the bounce as that's is the advantage they will get (on average) during most matches against non shityhad based teams.

Shityhad/AFL need it's 'base' teams to win as much as possible wherever possible.

Well its us or the aints... And I've thought that since round 1.

Sure if we had won a few of those close games vs dogs, aints, giants, suns, port we would have more respectability but I still think we are the least skillful and mentally weak team in the comp along with stkilda.

Crossy out just kills us which is sad really...

We set high-standards for Tyson - so he really needs to fix up his disposal by foot if he wants to reach that elite level in the future. His left-foot has a bit of bite in it but he does not hit targets often enough. It's not a lack of skill, maybe laziness or fatigue.

One to forget, hit the track and hopefully end the etihad nightmare asap. Umpires are inept and at times cheats . Terrible game of afl today and spewin we lost .

Jetta was great today. Knows how to win the tough ball. Wish we had another one of him playing forward.

We played some dumb footy. Dropped marks, missed targets and made stupid decisions with the hand balls and in the back line. We will be sixteenth and may not win another game for the rest of the year.

Probably is fatigued but he has no right foot id get him running right side and kicking 100 on the right under the pump until he uses it on matchday .

Just so frustrating. We deserved to lose and it would have been a robbery if we won. Jamar and Jetta standout whilst the rest looked ordinary. Frawley dropping the ball twice to set up the winning goal drove me insane. It looked like a simple formula to win. Clearance, long kick, goal. Losing in the middle put us under too much pressure and it seems teams have figured out how to stop any type of transition from back to forward. The carcass that is Casey makes it impossible to make changes with any conviction. Not long until NFL season.

Don't forget Watts missing the sitter from 20 m out on the 45 degree angle, best kick in the team pahh!

I've got no voice left and I'm expecting the neighbours round at any moment to check that everything is okay.

Brutally disappointing. Sloppy ball use and dumb decisions again and again and again. And again.

Umps were terrible but they were terrible for both sides. Incorrect disposal of the footy apparently no longer exists which is an interesting development.

Frawley is going at 60% and it is showing. He is gone and while he is in the side we have a passenger. That said, Frawley at 60% is probably as good or better than anyone to take his spot.

Garland on the other hand is just badly underdone and needs a spell in the twos.

Matt Jones tries hard but will never be good enough for this level. His decision making is as bad as anyone we have.

We cleaned up the defensive stoppages which cost goals last time we played the Dogs but this time it was poor decisions under pressure in the defensive 50 that cost goals, and Dunn, Frawley and Garland were the prime offenders.

Watts got a pass mark overall but typically it was a case of class being evened out by some horrid mistakes and missing a gimme goal that we badly needed. He also still struggles time and again to keep his feet.

The positives..

Big tick for the tall timber in Gawn and Jamar who will be getting votes this week. Kept us in it with their contested marking and kicking majors in the effective absence of Dawes who had his worst game as a Demon.

Viney is a star. Was clearly given a role and executed it to perfection. Kept Libba quiet for the best part of the day and and was typically ferocious at the coalface.

Vince is in a good run of form.

Grimes had one of his better days at both ends of the ground. Nate Jones had far from his best day but fought hard.

Love the way Nev Jetta plays. Attacks the ball and the man like his life depends on it and he is reasonably clean by foot.

Overall it was there to be won but a horrendous first quarter was too costly in the end. We are still very much a bottom four side but the the defensive structures are being instilled and the will to win is getting stronger. Unfortunately, poor skills and decisions can't be corrected overnight.

We still have to play Geelong, Hawks, Port at Port, West Coat in Perth, Freo...

Big chance for the spoon sadly

Ok, so the whinging and hand ringing is getting dull so let me explain some positives:

Viney - played a cracker. Added a string to his bow.

Jamar - without his big body at the start of the year we got smashed. Going forward more makes him really hard to match up.

Vince - got sticked early but worked hard to have an impact. As a coach you can use him to show that there is no such thing as a bad day.

Grimes - one of his best games for us.

And all this having a crack at young players is a joke. Tyson, Viney, Salem, Toumpas etc could all play together for 10 years. The future is bright there. Calm down.

Jetta was great today. Knows how to win the tough ball. Wish we had another one of him playing forward.

But still butchered one of our best forays forward in the last with a poor inside 50...but I'll forgive him given he was hardly alone there.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
