In my line of work, if I took upon a job at a competitor, I'd hand in my four weeks notice, and would be sent on "gardening leave" for the duration of my four weeks on full pay, with my building access would be revoked. In other more "standard" jobs in the past, I'd give my four weeks notice, and spend that four weeks handing over and making sure those taking on my responsibilities were fully up to speed. In neither case would I have any reason (practically or morally) to lie to my employer.

Frawley's position is comparable to my own - sure, he'd have to go on "gardening leave" too (i.e. no longer available for selection), but it would be on full pay and won't affect his contract at his new club. It's a small price to pay for doing the right thing by your club (employer).

I agree with Redleg that it would be very low if he's signed already and is fibbing about it. I'm doubtful that it's the case anyway.

So we don't play Frawley all year? That would make sense. Why stop at one year? Why not someone with 2 yrs to run? Or 3y?

OK I get you guys are passionate about our club. We all are. But players have been taught over many years that clubs discard them at will. You stop that and you might het some layalty back. Bt it won't happen. And players have their rights to do it. You are blinkered if you can't see that.

As for the 'club needs to know ' line. Bulldust. Read my post above. They make plans all the time for contingencies

I was thinking over a shorter period of time - like half a season max. I suppose to could be extended to an entire season if necessary, but I highly doubt Frawley signed that far out. A player signing with another club with two years or three years to run on their existing club is unrealistic.

Ablett and Scully signed a year out.

It's unrealistic for clubs to hamstring themselves by not playing players who have signed elsewhere.

Just don't let them officially sign anywhere until October - journos can still have their conjecture and fans can know that their player has not already signed a contract elsewhere.

It always seemed a strange option to me. They have some really good young key defenders already and then you have Reid as a swingman AA key back. Why would they pay good money for Frawley?

Would think the reasoning would be get Frawley and then trade a surplus tall to GWS for someone like O'Rourke, who they are keen on.

well technically Ablett and Hwfua weren't FA and there was only one possible club to go to, so in many ways quite different

also ablett claims that while he was probably always going but he kept alive the possibility of staying and claims that near the end he was almost swayed.

how much of this you want to believe, or dismiss as spin is up to you

Hwfua is another issue and not worth wasting words on

Not all players are motivated by the same things. Some players wish to play their entire career with one club and be known/remembered for that. Those players are generally very popular with club supporters. Not all players have that desire.

6. The thing that really annoys me about Frawley is not actually that he might leave the club. He is obviously entitled to do whatever he thinks is in his best interests. What frustrates me is that his rhetoric is all 'loyal country boy', but his actions are clearly not aligned to that. In short, he's not being fair dinkum with the club and it's supporters and I find it unnecessarily disingenuous in the circumstances.

What has Frawley actually said? What has he actually done that is disingenuous?

You only needed to see Buckley's reaction to Robbo's question to know they are definitely into Frawley, whether they need him or not.

Would expect his pimp, sorry his manager, has been shopping his ass on most street corners. Collingwood would be one of many.

His reaction could have meant many things, apart from your interpretation it could also have been "what are you on Robbo, Frawley, you've got to be kidding"...

Just reported on AFL Gameday (fwiw) that Collingwood is not in the hunt due to salary cap issues.

According to the pundits, the likely scenario is Geelong or GCS.

Shaun Higgins likely to be a Tiger in 2015.

The Tigers poaching an average player from another club yet again? When will they learn?

I do find it rather funny to see them continually going after average players each year from other clubs. There is a reason the club is rubbish and everyone can see it except them. Giving a soft, injury prone back flanker decent money is not going to improve them in the short or long term.

For the Tigers the bar it would seem it set at 8th. For premiership teams its not even a ladder position, its being ahead come the final siren on the one day in September. Thats the focus of winners and thats why Richmond languish......gotta love the poor sods...lol

The tigers really need to re-think their recruiting plan

They need to develop their kids a little better and focus on turning them in to stars. The cast offs they have recruited over the years have generally been players that their previous clubs haven't missed.

Im sure that they ( Toiges ) keep thinking they are so close to success (9th will do that to you...lol ) that surely they just need a little bit more to tip them over into the 8. Again goes to my notion theyve aimed too low. Keep it up Tiges :)

Fwiw Frawley was having coffee in Geelong on Friday morning with parties unknown.

Didn't see him with my own eyes.

Someone ought to ring in to the Ox and ask if he's seen much of him down Barwon way ^_^

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I saw him at the Hawthorn Hotel early last week having a coffee.

I know what you're all thinking.....who drinks coffee at a pub?

I believe the Ox saw him too, or heard about it, and was talking about it on radio later that day.

For that reason I was surprised the "news" hadn't found its way on here by now.

May be a few people buying James coffee from now till the end of season. I don't think he has committed to any club just yet.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
