I can't help but think that if he were to leave, we will be compensated with an end of first round pick. If this happens, it's a significant loss for us.

The only thing you can look at in regards to compensation is any precedence set in the past, and even then it's still a whole world of grey.

Dal Santo is on around $450k for 3 years. St Kilda received a 2nd round pick

Dale Thomas around $625k for 4 years. Collingwood received a first rounder.

Buddy $10m/9years - 1st rounder

Sylvia approx. $350k a year for 3 years - we received a 2nd round pick (which we all thought was way overs)

Goddard 4 years @ over $3m - first round

Port got a second round pick for Danyle Pearce, but I'm unsure of the dollar value and length of contract.

In theory, anything above $550k a year for 4 years should get see us get a first rounder for Frawley, but I wouldn't be taking that to the bank. Would "finals" teams, remembering that if he is to leave it's to go to a club playing in September, be willing to pay these sort of dollars?

The biggest issue will be our finishing position. If we stay 16th, we get pick 3. Will the AFL want us getting a pick straight after that? As RPFC bolded above, the committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes when the formula produces a materially anomalous result. The question they, and some on here should ask, is Frawley worth Pick 4?

You need to stick to talking about the 'bands' that each of these are in.

Dal Santo got Band 3

Thomas got Band 1

Franklin got Band 1

Sylvia got Band 3

Goddard got Band 1

Pearce got Band 3

Chaplin got Band 3

That makes a lot more sense about what people are worth - the fact that Bands 1, 3, and 5 are tied to a clubs 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks is an equalisation measure and makes things a great deal fairer to lower clubs losing players.

Frawley has to be band 1...which then goes to round 1 . But is that after pick or end of round ?

The bias will be political....I bet on it

Band 2 is the pick after the first round.

Band 1

Goddard 27 - $3m/4

Thomas 26 - $2.8m/4

Band 3

Sylvia 27 - $1.05m/3

Dal Santo 29 - $1.35m/3

Frawley would bring:

Band 3: Pick 24 - (Frawley 26 - $1m/4)

Band 2: Pick 20 - (Frawley 26 - $1.8m/4)

Band 1: Pick 4 - (Frawley 26 - $2.6m/4)

I am not sure when one Band jumps to the next Band but my money is on Band 1 and Pick 4, and I was right about Sylvia...

dont doubt you. I figure Frawley will go for 2.6m/4 or more

if we got band one for sylvia, its really a no brainer for chip. a way more valuable player, and has been a much bigger figure at this club than sylvia ever was.

Still reckon he will stay

I get the feeling he values playing with his mates a lot more than chasing a flag at a rival club

If he wants success he will want it with the MFC, nowhere else

Haven't you been saying he is almost certainly gone, HH?

B59 - who will pay that for Frawley?

Most teams, Billy, IMO.

my bad, pick 23.

I remembered it being very generous.

Even so, sylvia only ever really played a small handful of good games, pick 23 was a steal.

should get a band 1 for chip and sylvia gave a band 2.

unless we got lucky with sylvia.

wrong again, sylvia was a band 3

where we finished on ladder meant not much diff between band 2 and 3

Sorry bruv, it was a second rounder at 23, which as you highlighted, doesn't really seem to differ in picks to a band 2, as it was after our second round pick, i wonder then would a band 2 have given us a pick after our first round?

lol

Really?

of course. at least suggest why you don't think so. How can anyone know what your point of view is?

Frawley has been an integral part of our team for a long time, had roos not switched things around and implemented everything he has, frawley would still be a major contributor commanding the back line.

So based on importance to current club, we should get substantial compensation for him.

I recall 'the value of the player at current club' being factored in to the compensation?

I could be wrong, but I think thats considered.

Has anyone got access to or knows where to find the compensations systems procedures?

Time to call Frawley in and demand an answer! Does he or does he not want to play with us next year. Give him a week, pitch our offer to him and hammer him for a decision.

No more of this I'm still making up my mind bulltish. The fact he must surely know what other offers are out there. SO WEIGH IT UP SON AND LET THE FOOTY WORLD KNOW!

Either he is in or out! Time for us to show some gonads in our negotiations! He knows, why aint he saying???

Well ?

Ah, ok. So clearly I think we will get a "Band" 2.

Happy now? Same shite different smell in my opinion.

Now, if you don't mind, can you please go and annoy someone else? Thanks in advance.

I dont think it really matters that much. The end of season isnt too far away. The club will know when it needs to .

We're frustrated , but does it matter. Im sure Chip pretty well has his mind made up one way or the other.

what is...is. What will be ...will be

the club will survive either wayt

Our negotiating power is" The best interests of the club". We are well into planning for 2015. Every club is!

No man is an island and no man is greater than the strength of a team operation.

That is our negotiating power. Now James we will pitch our best offer to you, You surely know what else you have been offered elsewhere. We, like all clubs are heavily into planning for 2015. Is what we are offering beside money enough for you to stay?

Are you in or out?

You clearly don't understand negotiations.

His negotiating power is that he can do whatever he likes and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it, so we best keep him happy. 'The best interests of the club' is not negotiating leverage, it is merely a begging, whiny request for him to please be nice to us.

Chip has all the cards and the club sensibly recognises this. Issuing ultimatums in this scenario is plainly the silly thing to do.

Da ya reckon?? Whinny request be buggered. do you think he knows what he is doing in 2015?

If he does and goes why doesn't he say????

If he stays why doesn't he say!?

I'll tell you why because the moment he says I'm going puts the club in an interesting position selection wise!

So here's the negotiations pitch. Tell him if he stays we can do some ah creative things with his contract!

If he gives us a decision in the negative we still will play him as per normal for the rest of the year.

Win for us because we know and Roosy can start planning for next year and he still gives value on the field

Win for him because he still gets a game pending form!

Win/Win

There... and you thought all sport was full of cut throats with only selfish intentions at play!!

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
