Post Match Discussion - Round 9

I love the win - no question. But ... isn't it a beautiful thing to [censored] up Richmond's season? Just sit back and enjoy the fallout we have caused.

Talkback radio sure will be interesting. Anyone have a microwave they can lend to any Tiger supporters they know?

Really loved hearing Eddie's call in the last quarter "The Melbourne hard

For a kid playing his 20 something game, Tyson is really just showing his class and incredible strength around the contest for a young kid.

So much poise for one so young.

Im finally enjoying footy again.....thank god....i mean, Roos.

we're learning.....it's heartening

Also loved Vince's fourth quarter goal (brought the house down) and Viney's third quarter goal (sidestepping Astbury as if he was a witches hat).

In Basketball, that kind of drop step is colloquially referred to as "breaking your opponent's ankles"...

And I hate to say it - but Astbury hurt himself.

Viney is injuring blokes by just being in the vicinity...

I am a straight man and everything but I think I want to be Dom Tyson's boyfriend, that's if he is keen.

I officially declare we are off the canvas, standing up, putting some punch combinations together, and starting to press. Before round 1, many teams would have penciled the Melbourne game in as a win. We are now in every game for long periods and can hold our ground when the momentum swings.

It was great to be there today. We had some amazing brain-fade moments that put the wind up every Dees supporter but overall we had 22 blokes playing a strong brand of team footy. Although some players were outstanding, best of all it was a game of team footy. Even when the Tiges ran it endlessly and too easily off their half-back line, our boys got stuck into the two way running and refused to concede.

My hat goes off the Pederson, Dawes and Watts who for big players, ran their backsides off all day and were still grunt running in the last quarter.

Welcome back Max Gawn.

Roos has turned Pederson from a "he's a good kick" player, into a hard running, pack marking team man. I did not see this coming but I reckon his name stays written in ink on the team sheet for each game. He was magnificent today.

Just a look. Its not pretty. THey say there is a serious rift between hardwick and the players and choco williams.

They are going pretty feral. Dimma looks gone if you believe the hype...

Just extended his contract for 2 years in December!! Told my Richmond cousin stupid move because he should be gone this year if they don't make finals. They need a better coach and they've also got too many recycled players going around, a couple to play roles is fine but 6 or 8 is too many.

Great performance

Pedersen wow! Immense, his tackling pressure especially the one in the last quarter was insane!

Surely people are going to start looking at Tyson and Viney as 2 of the best young midfielders coming through.

How great is it to go to the game thinking we're in with a chance and being able to celebrate with fellow supporters we don't even know

The only downsides were Dawsy struggling to take a grab and the umpires who were absolutely deplorable. I didn't think it could get worse than the last two weeks but dear god they took the cake today

The first 5 minutes of either the 3rd or 4th quarter was some of the worst ive ever seen, 4-5 clear mistakes which gave Richmond momentum

Let's enjoy it guys! We're looking up!

All I can say is what a great feeling. On cloud nine after that win, and the signs are firmly there for this team to compete. somehow don't think we'll have any trouble re-signing or luring players anymore.

Stats that matter!

21 scoring shots from 41 entries

14 ctr clearances to 5

On top of that our intensity at the ball was almost finals like, just beautiful to watch!

toump tried hard today.

i'm a perennial critic, but some of his kicks were great, and his tackling and defensive running much improved.

he still made a few mistakes and there were a couple of instances where he'd get the ball in space and just...stop. he needs to back himself to run and carry - it's why we recruited him.

Was the Nev's late withdrawal a blessing in disguise?

His best work has been locking down dangerous small forwards, I don't consider Lloyd one of them yet so I didn't see a matchup for Nev out there.

While Toumpas wasn't bad and found some ball in a win which will do his confidence and overall enjoyment of life a world of good.

So nifty Nevs enjoyment is secondary to the gun new slow short kid?

Nev was blitzing before today.

He has given us better service than any top 5 pick in his time.

I have to draw attention to our backline brain fade, rancid skill, weak turnovers and especially the ones that lead directly to scoring shots. We have got to eradicate this or the really good teams will annihilate us.

Matt Jones at least makes up for it with some great forward run.

I still can't completely trust Terlich in a one-on-one contest, kicking inside defensive 50, or decision makling in a handball chain. He works very hard and takes some good intercept marks but he is always a bit shaky.

Tom Mac is frightening on the run. Tall, quick and often beats his opponent but he is in the Ben Holland class of "please handball". His decision making is frightening.

Howe's turnover was a genuine howler (no pun intended) but he had a great game.

I don't know what the answer is but it makes my guts turn when at the game. Are Terlich and T Mac solid in their positions?

Umpires are against us . Sandy was calling M Jones Terlich on fox . Viney unreal with so much upside .after some clangers the guys didnt retreat . Great team effort Pedo and Dawes hurting with tackles etc .really enjoyed today .

I didn't mean anything against Nev, apologies if it came across that way.

Just saying the lack of matchup for him and the opportunity for the Toump was good for everyone. Considering Nev was only out with gastro.

Ollie is a fine player, but so is the Toump. He was ok today and played his role. It would have been hard being told at the last minute your playing in front of 56 000 when your mentally preparing for a Casy game in front of 200.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
